Dear all, the Beomaster 5500 has a 6 pin DIN socket for connecting the external IR sensor type 2001. Very useful in large rooms or when hidden in a cabinet.

Does the Beomaster 7000 have a similar connection? In other words: is there a way to connect an external IR sensor to a Beomaster 7000 for use in the main room (i.e. without using a MCL2A)? And should sensor type 2001 or another type be used here?

While not the same as the Beomaster but in the same family, I know that the AV 7000 can use an external IR eye. However, I have heard of instances of using the external IR eye blowing a fuse in the AV7000.

There's no such connector on Beomaster 6500, so I don't suppose it would've been brought back for 7000. The Powerlink connectors (and the separate TV/AUX connector) take up the space that used to be in the connector bay for stuff like the sensor socket.

So there's no off the shelf solution, but it would not be too difficult to hook up a TSOP7000 IR receiver in parallel with the receiver circuit already in the Beomaster. No two way then of course, and in my experience the integrated modules don't quite match the B&O circuitry in receiving range.

In addition, why would anyone want to hide a BM7000 in a cabinet?

While the AV7000 was only for the U.S market, it matched the 7000 family of components perfectly. Adding an AV7000 would allow you to connect a B&O "hockey puck" external sensor with a mini-rca connector. However, the AV7000 reduces the 7000 family to one-way communication and loses the 2-way communication. This was a ridiculously stupid oversight by B&O, in my opinion.
