    Beogram CD X -PERFORMS FLAWLESSLY!!!

I just purchased a few pieces of vintage B&O audio equipment and am very excited listen to them when I get everything working.

Withe the Beogram CD X, if I unplug the power and plug it in it sounds like something is going on in the Beogram CD X, but when I hit play it won't spin or play the CD and the display will show "2".

After the first turning anytime it is turned on it gives a little (5*) rotation on the CD. Same thing when I hit Play.

I did a google search but found nothing that helped me, except a couple post's about a Beogram CDX, which is the generation after my CD X.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. -I also now regret having destroyed my fathers vintage Realistic  Electrostat-2a (when they had a quality product if I may say so)  speakers when I was younger and hooked them up to a very powerful Marantz amp -I would love to have some eletrostatic speakers, but can't afford them unless I can find them in the same price bracket I got the B&0 Beomaster 3000, Beogram CD X, and Beocord 2000 (which doesn't work either, but I don't use tapes so....).

The common fault with the CDX is cracked solder joints - there are a number of weak joins actually between boards - this causes symptoms just as you describe - the 2 is actually a ? with the dot missing! Well worth fixing and should not be expensive. The CDX has a lovely warm sound , quite unlike most Japanese CD players of this era. It was really a reboxed Philips CD100 which was the basis for a number of high end machines of the time.

    This is the repair tip!

    Intermittent failures

    Problem:

    Intermittent failures

    Cause:

    Disconnection of through-platings

    Solution:

Resolder all the marked through-platings when sets are received for service. Possibly run a wire through the plating.

    Re: Beogram CD X -won't spin/play CD

The CDX and its Philips made cousin Mission DAD7000 were the first two players I ever heard which told me that CD was worth having in my life! The standard Philips models gave me a headache and the Sony CDP101 sounded boring at the time (not strictly the player's fault, I discovered later on).

The CDX is WELL worth repairing, and if you can find a source of lasers for the brilliant old CD-M1 mechanism, please let me know, as they're getting extremely rare now and the Chinese haven't yet cottoned on to the fact that there could be a good market for well made pattern replacements.......

Thanks for all the help on this -I missed out on a LOT of sleep last night due to a Beogram CD X performing perfectly!!!

Next up is the Beogram 8002 record player. Will start a new thread after I get home from work today.
