Beogram 9500 connected to Beosound 3200

    Hi,

I tried to connect a BeoGram 9500 Record Deck with MMC4 cartridge to a Beosound 3200 via the 7DIN AUX IN socket but the sound is very weak even at very high volume.

Does any one know what could be wrong?

Could it be a faulty cartridge? or has the BeoGram 9500 a Built-in RIAA amplifier?

    Thanks

Re: Beogram 9500 connected to Beosound 3200

    Hi,

I think  the Beogram 9500 doesn't have a Riaa pre amplifier, and nor does  the Beosound 3200 have.

So you should insert  a pre amplifier between the 2 items.

    Best Regards

    Zazou

Hi, you sure need to add a preamp with RIAA.

Consider passing the datalink pin through (the ones at both ends of din), so you can use the remote to control the deck.

Thanks Pekka, this sounds very interesting! Can you suggest an RIAA supplier who can do this?

There is on ebay from sounds heavenly but I'm not sure it can work like you said. From the photo it seems the 7DIN out from BeoGram 9500 is converted to RCA for input to preamp and then the RCA output from preamp is converted back to 7DIN for input to BS3200 AUX.

Hi, B&O was manufacturing the RIAA pre-amps for the BeoMasters , not the BeoGrams themselves, however they might be able to get you a RIAA preamp for a BeoGram 4500 that you can retrofit in your BG9500, as this was the only diffrence between both models.

That will be fine, don't worry about it been RCA connections. As even though you have a 7 pin connection, there is no Datalink.

Well, at least my BG9500, when I connected it straight to Ouverture AUX, was nicely responding to Beo4. But, maybe BS3200 do not have it then.

I'm still in process of attaching the BG to Ouverture. I'm going to do the cable so, that the datalink line will bypass the preamp.

The 3000 and 3200 do not have datalink. At least the ones I tried a few months ago didn't!

Hi, thanks for all the pictures of my pre-amp kit, that was quite a surprise to see them on the thread!

Basically, I have had them made with both RCA and 5pin DIN inputs AND outputs, so you have a choice of connections, but they don't pass Datalink signals through (you would need to unscrew the two extra removeable pins on the Beogram DIN plug to connect it).  I can provide a custom cable with Datalink wiring included on request, but the pre-amp kits don't ship with this included as standard.

As Graham mentioned, the newer models in the "Ouverture" range (ie. 3000 and 3200 don't have Datalink, so they are not able to control a Beogram remotely.  However, the earlier models (including the Ouverture) do have this facility.

    Best regards,

    Steve.
