    Best connections on an Avant

    Hi All,

I was hoping to get your opinions on whether there's a better way to connect my peripherals to my 32" RF Avant (VCR) to get the best quality picture and sound.

    As it stands:

Decoder - Virgin V+ (with this STB set to RGB output)

    DVD - B&O DVD1

VCR SCART - I have unplugged the SCART going from the inbuilt VCR to the Avant and plugged in an X-Box 360 into the Avant instead

Camcorder - I have my Airport Express plugged into here.

I'm sure I remember someone saying that the Decoder SCART is not RGB so you guys may suggest I plug it into one of the others instead.

FYI, I use the V+ box by far the most, then the DVD player, then the X-Box and airport respectively.

    Thanks!

Interesting idea to unplug the VCR scart and use it for a games console - I like it, and may well copy that idea. Thanks!

Up to now I've plugged a PS3 into the "Camcorder" inputs behind the display. Interestingly, my Linked MX4002 in the bedroom would also display the PS3 picture when I selected CAMCORDER there. With the wireless PS3 controllers, it was possible to play a game on the lounge-based PS3, while in the bedroom.

For my part I reckon you've probably got the connections right. But then I'm still trying to work out where the DECODER socket is on my Avant (28" VCR)!

In mine opinion you have only one choice: and that is SCART. There is no  difference in quality between the 3 SCART ports. The SCART port mentioned for decoder has an option with IR control. So you can control your decoder with a B&O remote control.

Beware: not in every Avant the IR control is build in. If not, you have to check with your dealer if it can be build in.

The VCR and AV connections supports RGB, while Decoder only support Composite.

If you have an STB-C controller build-in, then you can control a box on the AV or on the Decoder input.

If you have the RF version, then you can control 2 boxes/ps3 etc on both AV and Decoder simultaniously.

My suggestion would be: connector the V+box to AV as DTV/Sat, DVD on the VCR and ps3 on the decoder.

The ps3 requires a special RGB cable if you want to connect through RGB on the VCR connection. Standard is only a compositecable.

Agree with above - why the decoder scart is not RGB seems very odd though!

As I see that you've the RF type, try to change the setting from "chassis type" and /or "internal VCR" in the service menu.

If you set the internal VCR to no, then you can possibly rename the VCR to DVD in the socket menu.

But the DVD will respond to both VCR and DVD instructions.

    Thanks for all your suggestions.

Beobuddy, you mention that I need a special cable to benefit from RGB from the PS3. The thing is, I have an X-Box 360 not a PS3. Does this output RGB over the standard connection or do I need to buy something special?
