Help required re installing a Dolby surround sound module

    Hi all,

I'm having a bit of trouble getting my recently purchased surround sound module to work on my 8323 Avant.

It's a 4019 and the compatibilty with the tv looks fine in the Monitor Info.

The instructions say to solder the 2R2 resistor that came in the pack at location 14R11.  It only says R11 on the circuitboard and there's already a 2R20 resistor there.  Am I right in assuming the work's already been done for me and no further soldering is required?

Also, the instructions seem to indicate I need to fit new chips into IC1 & 1C2 on PCB6.  The chips currently there both have V3.5 on - do they need updating?

I hooked up the flat wire that connects the module to the TV's circuit board and then set about connecting my speakers.  They're passive non-B&O so I've obtained a 5din-RCA lead to run from my FRONT PL outlet to my amp which is subsquently connected to a pair of JBLs.

When I select SPEAKER on the remote I can't change it from speaker 1 to speaker 2 or 3.  It's as if the new set up isn't recognized.

Other than a sound check is there a way to see if the module is correctly installed?  Or am I potentially in need of a SW update?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks a lot!

I'm not an expert and maybe I'm worng but it might need a setup also from the service menu as well.

unless of course there are things you did not install!!

Did it have the mini circuit board on the end of the cable? Some of the tv's need that connected to work.

Also to change to Speaker 3 / 5 etc I think you have to select what type of speakers you have connected in the Sound menu.

Yes, it has the mini circuit board at the end of the cable that connects to the TV's circuitry.

There's no option to select speakers in the Sound menu, only to adjust the balance.  I think this indicates the problem as you're right, there should be an option to select different types of speakers.

Did you have to add a resistor or was there one already there?

    Thanks a lot.

Thanks Spiros, do you know what I should be looking for in the service menu to complete the set-up?

First of all I think you will confirm that it will appear on the service menu thus it was installed correctly. I'm not sure but maybe it also needs a confirmation to work. But I would advise you to check the service manual. I think it should be here for gold/silver members at the download area.

    Best regards
