Hello BeoWorld !
Yesterday we were lazing as usual... but Bjorn, Peter and me got a little break in our hard work, and we heard some farmers discussing near from us.
Maybe something that may sound good to some of you...
Beo 5 will become a two-way remote !
Baaah !

So it may have been worth being patient...
I would have preferred a totally new remote (à la Beo4 or iPhone) as I really dislike the design of the Beo5, but that is excellent news anyway. Thank you Sheeps.
Let's hope that Struer will solve the configuration (tool) issues and that the two-way Beo5 will be as attractive as an iPhone with Apple Remote (i.e. convenient access to the music library stored in a BM5 and no need for a BS5 or a Beovision at all: in such case I promise I will forget Apple).

About time!
I take it this means all existing Beo 5's too?

That would be wonderful, but I don't think so...[:'(]

is there a reason why it won't be available on ''old'' beosound5's? I'm thinking about ordering one shortly, so should i wait?
would this feature not just be added with a software upgrade?
thanks

Hmmh....
That's a good news, but it brings a lot of questions...
- Will existing Beo5 magically become 2 way with software upgrade? (that would mean the 2 way hardware is already present).
- None of the existing TV, Hifi has an IR emitter, so, how will 2 way work??
Wifi from the BM5 maybe??

Exactly what I was thinking.

As the BM5 is connected to the Ethernet network of your house, which is likely to have a wifi router, then it would be quite easy.
The BM5, being on the ML as well, could re-route commands to other devices.

Indeed. I always viewed the dropping of 2 way a retrograde step. I love it.

Could this by way some dealers are offering Beo5's at £320 (part-ex Beo4)?
I popped into my local dealer on Saturday to buy one only to find he had none in stock. I was a bit annoyed at the time since I was looking forward to a new toy to amuse me over the weekend! Having read this I'm pretty glad I didn't take the plunge.
The big question is will current Beo5's have this function? As others have said, its not just a software issue so unless the hardware is already there (I know one of you guys will know the ins and outs of this remote by now!) then the current Beo5 is pretty much obsolete already! I don't mind if my current B&O equipment can't take advantage of 2-way comms but if I'm about to by a new item (Beo5) I'd like to have the most current version.
I have until the end of the month to take advantage of the above offer. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this in time!
Cheers!

As with pretty much all previous items (BC2 DAB, etc) I'd put a tenner on that fact that the early Beo5's won't be 2-way, only the newer Mk2 versions.
I hear there is also a new / totally different software tool coming out soon which should make configuration easier for the dealers, but still no public release.

I believe the current Beo 5 promotion is just to generate store traffic, like we had the 50$ gift certificate before christmas.
I don't think they would run specials on Beo5's if there is a significant spec change without telling you that when you buy.
I think we have to wait and find out what 2 way means. Maybe its just in conjunction with BS5 to pick the CD or songs.. Maybe its just picking up the source information and displays that.
2 way can mean all or nothing.

Will it work with the older two way products? Been thinking about getting a two way remote to use with my Beocenter 9500.

Nice Beo5 with two-way communication!????
But can anybody say anything about audio & video products with the capability of sending information to the Beo5?
This seems quite essential, doesn't it?
All audio and video products momenterally, are not capable to do so........................! And they won't update the Beo5 for the product from the 1980.

I'm kinda new to this...
what exactly would 2-way mean?
That the Beo5 can receive information from your TV, or stereo and display it on the screen?

Luke :That the Beo5 can receive information from your TV, or stereo and display it on the screen?
Yes, exactly.
Old B&O TVs and Stereo used to broadcast the current channel/track info, volume, etc... which was displayed on the remote screen.
B&O abandoned 2way when they moved to ML. The reasons:
it was slow, and non B&O devices controlled by STB could not send info back on the remote.
TVs could display complex menus to give feedback.
It kind of worked... until now, with large digital music libraries, it is impossible to choose a record within 10000 with a 1way remote and no screen.

As long as it is a rumour I'm not excited... but it would be great if the current Beo 5 remotes are compatible with the 2 way idea.
If "Trip English" posted this news I would instantly believe it! :-)
So, let's see if we can trust that little grass eating fella called "SecretSheep"
Does anybody know if there's an Ir receiver inside the Beo 5? If yes, somebody in Struer thought way ahead the current product status :-)
btw: How can I identify a Beo 5 MK 2?
