Yes, BL1000 is enough for tuning and programming the presets. Use GOTO and then key in the frequency to tune into - the display turns to "F", and that's all the feedback you're going to get. You will need to key in the tenths as well, i.e 1040 is 104.0 MHz. Be patient until the BM actually tunes (there's a timeout).
Then, if you want to store the current frequency to a preset, press STORE <preset number> STORE and you're done.

I think I recall that one thing you can't do with a 1000 is set the timer function - is there anything else that can't be done with a 1000?
Yes - resetting the timer function! You will need to use the same remote that was used to create a timer to get rid of it. Another thing lacking will be the programmed play functions.
