AST - Adaptive Sound Technology
OK, so I have had my BV7-40mkIII updated to the latest software, due to some faults, now got the Black menu
In the menu for SOUND, there is an option for AST on/off this is currently grey'd out and con not be changed. in the SERVICE menu for Sound Config, if you choose SOUND SYSTEM there is the line Adaptive Sound Technology - DISABLED.
Anyone know what this does and how to enable it
Jon

Re: AST - Adaptive Sound Technology
My understanding is that it is a system that will adjust the sound automatically, perhaps using a microphone, somewhat similiar to the system on Beolab 5s. It has not yet been officially released and thus there is no way to get it to work at present even though it shows up in the software. It is also my understanding that a hardware update to the BV7 will be required for it to work. I think I read in here somewhere that it will be possible to update the BV7 MKIII but I may be mistaken about that.

Beovision 10-40 with Beolab 1s and 6000s

Re: AST - Adaptive Sound Technology
I've been told this will be delivered starting with the BV7-40 Mk IV. It'd consist in using a microphone to adjust automatically the sound, at least.

Re: AST - Adaptive Sound Technology
I am led to believe it is a new patented technology which allows you to place your speakers anywhere in the room yet still be able to achieve true surround sound.
It uses reference points within the room which you input into the television, then all the speaker positions are relative to this, apparently.

Re: AST - Adaptive Sound Technology
The BeoVision 7-55 should have Adaptive Sound Technology.
Does anyone have more exact info on what this involves?

Depends what they claim and how well it does it! Let's wait and see.
Some of the "Soundbars" can work quite well I believe (Yamaha??) although it will only work for a particular seating position (I think)
Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

Re: AST - Adaptive Sound Technology
This means I need a software update for BeoSystem3, BeoVision7 and a new Beo5 Config Tool? When will this be available?

Re: AST - Adaptive Sound Technology
Forgive a sceptic, but doesn't this just mean that the TV will measure sound levels from speakers and construct an automatic level for the room. With a central channel and say 6 speakers and a subwoofer, I cannot see how all seating positions can be in a sweet spot. Willing to be proved wrong of course.

Should these updates be provided free or would you be willing to pay!

Re: AST - Adaptive Sound Technology
I assumed it would require lab5 or something like that which has a microphone soas to test the speaker distances etc?
if not, how would the processor know the distances. . .there has to be some measuring device right?

I'm ready for something new that I actually want to buy!

Re: AST - Adaptive Sound Technology
This system has been in development for quite a long time, and is an attempt to combat some "real world problems" - often faced by installers and dealers - with some clever maths and programming.
I won't spoil the surprise - but the system does not involve microphones or any other built in measurement instuments.
Some very precise room parameters are entered on screen, and the system takes it from there. Beo5 is needed though, and earlier TV's out there MAY require hardware fitting.
In a previous life, I spent many many hours installing Linn/Naim/Rega products, and it is fair to say that at first glance, this system is very much at odds with the "audiophile" concepts held dear in that sector - and I'm not surprised that there are also sceptical comments here........ BUT - I used to have to explain the lack of a balance control, let alone any form of e.q., to customers who would look baffled, and point out that the theory is all well and good, but they had solid floors, or a boomy wall void, or no soft furnishings....etc etc and the sound was compromised, with no means of correction.
I first heard this system in its infancy a couple of years ago, and also a later version that was close to the finished article, andl I would suggest that sceptics don't pre-judge this until you have heard it- and also, bear in mind that many here will be prepared to place speakers in an ideal (or close to) layout at home. As with a lot of solutions, if you don't have the problem, you don't need the solution.
This clever system will improve the performance of a great many "compromised" rooms, as well as perhaps opening up the choice of a top flight Home Cinema to homes where previously, because of the shape, owners thought that the room would simply defeat any surround sound system.
Not everyone can/will/wants to design their living room around their TV & speakers - even if they cost £20K or more.

Re: AST - Adaptive Sound Technology
Yes, thank you for posting the list, although I am sorry to see it. My dealer told me this week our BV7 would only need a software update. It is a US model MKIII. Looking at the list looks like we would need a module update as well :(.

Re: AST - Adaptive Sound Technology
I took a look at the hidden ast button on our Beo 5. Activating it brings up a menu allowing for several presets, TV, Cinema and rotate left and right, looks very interesting.
