USB Error - Please reconnect the Beo 5 and try again ... What's this?

    Hi,

my Beo 5 seems to have bad karma :-(

A few weeks ago somebody kicked it from the livingroom table and it was repaired. They changed the complete displayunit etc.

Now, I try to connect the new Beo 5 and update my configuration but it doesn't work. Windows XP installed the driver, sees the Beo 5, it's charging and the configuration tool sees the Beo 5, too.

It showed the serial number, I can configure everything and when I try to donwload configuration it parses all files etc. and then shows me this message:

"USB Error - Please reconnect the Beo 5 and try again"

I'm realy starting to hate my Beo 5! Angry

Can anybody help? Or should I test how far I can throw it? Big Smile

    Firmware: 1.40a
    Configtool: 2.20

    Windows XP with SP2
    INTEL USB Host Controller

    my XP is official.

Does the new configuration tool need SP3?

Oh and the Beo 5 is directly plugged in the computer (no hub).

I'm not sure, but I think if your firmware is upgraded, the original config programme no longer works.
    I might be wrong though.

    Poor me, never win owt!

If this problem occur ("USB Error - Please reconnect the Beo 5 and try again"). You shall undock it and then turn off the Beo5 (holding the center button down for 5 sek), and then dock it again.

Perhaps you have to do this a few times..

mmmh,  today I used the "original" Computer on which it worked but there's the same error message :-(

I  left  the Beo 5 at my dealer, today. He  should check it out and give it a try.

Re: USB Error - Please reconnect the Beo 5 and try again ... What's this?

So, I've finaly found the solution:

Normal configuration without graphic icons works perfectly. When I'm adding my own icons to every zone, menu and light I get the USB-error-message or some times a "configuration too large" error message.

So it seems to be a bad software problem which shows that the Beo 5 doesn't seem to be perfect for icon based buttons :-(

That's a shame and I hope they'll fix it! I have so many nice icons made for the beo 5 :-)

Are you sure that your BMP Icon files are no bigger than 100 x 44 each

If you get the message "Configuration too Large" means your "Configuration.XML file is greater than 2mb in size

How many Iccons have you added ?

    Regards Keith....

Re: USB Error - Please reconnect the Beo 5 and try again ... What's this?

    Hi Keith,

yes, I'm 100% sure as the icon worked on Firmware 1.34a and config tool V1.3 :-)

I tried to use about 30 icons but even with only 10-15 I get this error message!? I can't understand that as it worked with the older software ...

Perhaps other members are interested in those icons, too? I could upload my whole set and other members can try it out.

Upload your configuration.xml file and the icons in a ZIP file HERE and I will check your problem out.

Re: USB Error - Please reconnect the Beo 5 and try again ... What's this?

Hi Keith, I'm actualy uploading my configuration file but I always get an error message "Problem loading page" after clicking "upload xml file".

It is 3,2MB big - this seems to be the problem for the Beo 5 configuration tool; but personaly I don't think that there are too many icons!?

Is there any way to shrink it down?

Do you need the icons, too?

    TWG,

Beo5 can only accept files smaller than 2 Mb. I think your problem is this. Try to send an xml file smaller, and see if you get the same error.

    Regards

    Quim

I am sorry about the problem with the UPLOAD but the Perl server was down for a time, however it is all back working again now.

Please include in the zip file all the Icons as well as the configuration file itself.

As Quim has said your configuration file must not be greater than 2mb otherwise you will get the error.

    Regards Keith....

Re: USB Error - Please reconnect the Beo 5 and try again ... What's this?

    Hi Keith,

no problem, now the icon upload worked fine! But I can't upload the 3,x MB configurationfile!?

I've  attached all my icons. Perhaps some other members like them, too.

But please remove my photo out of the icons (I forgot it) ;-)

Now I have all the fine icons but I can't use them because of those limitations ... any workaround??

    Thanks :-)

Re: USB Error - Please reconnect the Beo 5 and try again ... What's this?

    Hi Keith,

now my programming works with icons only for the zones and for the stations. It's not what I wished but it works.

My configuration file is still ca. 3MB on the PC but it transfers without problems to the Beo 5.

    I can't realy understand this ;-)

Re: USB Error - Please reconnect the Beo 5 and try again ... What's this?

I cannot understand that either, unless your configuration file has a lot of duplicated data, which, when serialised is excluded from teh serilaised HEX file which is downloaded to the Beo5.

If you upload your configuration file HERE I will have a look at it

    Regards Keith....

Re: USB Error - Please reconnect the Beo 5 and try again ... What's this?

    Hi Keith,

I've tried to upload the configuration file (3,6MB) on your link and it always said:

One or more files failed to upload

The reason was File exceeded limitations : twg_beo5config.xml

Can I send you the file via email? Perhaps that's simpler ;-)

I think there's a bug in the configuration tool:
When I reimport my configuration into the Beo 5 config tool, the description of my lamps is gone and I have double entries inside some zones ...
Or am I doing s.th. wrong?

    Greetings
