Beomaster 2400-2: 3 electrical problems after refurbishing

Hello from the ex-moderator of the Italian forum,

I have recently refurbished my Beomaster 2400-2: replaced all electrolytic caps and trimpots, did the resoldering and final adjustments. Sonically it is flawless, however the following symptoms have since developed:

    - the unit does not respond to the remote control - there's a new battery and I can clearly hear it buzzing when a button is pressed

    - when powering on to any of tuner stations, there is a heavy station drift for  two seconds, as if someone was turning the tuning wheel from bottom to top of the range; voltage stabilization, I suppose; this happens both after all night off state and after repetitively switching on and off, i.e. with supply stage fairly charged.

    - when powering on to TAPE, the unit turns on but the control lamp doesn't light up and there is a faint and distorted sound from the TAPE input coming through; it then requires holding a finger on touch sensor for more than a second to accept the command.

Finally, I was hoping that the refurbishment would resolve the spike noise when powering on but it didn't.

Any help would be most welcome.

    Thank you in advance.

    Milan

Re: Beomaster 2400-2: 3 electrical problems after refurbishing

    Hi Milan,

Welcome back to Beoworld !   Yes - thumbs up

There will always be a little burst of noise (audible as a click or thumbfrom the speakers) when the Beomaster 1900/2400
    goes out of standby.
That will be the amplifiers balancing in the output stage and the muting circuit sits before the amps.

Check that the 15V from the electronic switch is correct and clean.
Replace the board mounted rectifier close to the fuse and the somewhat large capacitor C92.

    Hello Martin,

good to see you again. Thanks for the advice. I'll let you know my findings, probably not sooner than the coming weekend.

    Good evening again,

no improvement here. I've replaced the rectifier on PCB2, the adjacent 2200 uF cap (although I had replaced it already) and adjusted 15V regulated supply and tuning voltages. Same symptoms as before. Any hints what to do next?

    Thank you very much.

Check the tuning voltage and see if this is what drifts at power up.
The sluggish channel switching can be caused by many things, it's hard
to diagnose "per remote", it could be as simple as wrong wattage lamps.
The BM1900/2400 are generally very sensitive to correct lamp wattage.
