Embarrasing, but essential.
Everybody on here has obviously got great taste as we all love B&O but we each, I am sure, have our own little foibles. So what I want to know are what songs do you secretly love but have to explain why they are so good to any one else that hears them coming out of your stereo/ipod. For me its anything by Wham (except Last Christmas), dont ask me why but I think they are great, along with Dr Hook!! So what are your embarrasing essentials?

Randy Newman is top among my of indefensible music collection.

Jethro Tull and The Kinks. Their best work never appreciated in the US, when their bodies of work are long, wide, and (often) deep. Only with headphones in my world.

Haha, Wham is on my list as well! :-) ("Everything She Wants" is a really great pop song, IMO)
Other than Wham, my "embarrassing music" list is mainly populated by embarrassing Swedish chart hits, haha.
Ooh, I almost forgot - I love Charlene's "Never been to me"! :D BTW, I just watched an episode of "Beautiful People" where Frances Barber paraphrased this song.

Wham for me too, and after they disbanded George Michael. In my defence though, he's a great song writer Chris.
The use of metaphors should be avoided like the plague. They're like a red rag to a bull to me.

Re: Embarrasing, but essential.
Doris Day, Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole anybody?? (In fact quite a lot of pre-Rock & Roll music). My son actually bought me a "Calamity Jane" DVD for Christmas (to my complete suprise)! Nearly forgot to say - it's the shimmering strings that do it for me every time, you can pick a "Nat" track out every time just by the string sound (also true of early Drifters records).

I have an entire playlist in iTunes labelled "Guilty" George Michael's 'Freedom' seems tame in this group, so I'll confess to absolutely loving Dolly Parton's version of 'Stairway to Heaven'.

Trentemöller, it's very strange music, but it sounds very beautifull on my system and I like the special effects

That's not embarrasing! The only embarrasing music I listen to is MGMT, but I like it...

Re: Embarrasing, but essential.
Dolly is great! She's been one of my favourites since I was ten or eleven, and I've never been embarrassed of it :-) I also used to collect Eurythmics records, and that's a bit embarrassing. I do like Annie though. I also have to confess that I like some of the latest Coldplay songs.
Lat.fm made me realise how embarrassing my music listening habits are ;-) I used to think that I most of the time listened to modern electronica and other new music, but my last.fm logs showed me the truth and it wasn't pretty :-) That's all I have to say about that, haha.

MGMT are superb and one of the freshest new bands around at this moment in time! Nothing to be ashamed of there - 'Time to Pretend' and 'Electric Feel' are brilliant tunes! My real guilty pleasure though is................... ABBA! Lee quite often complains at the 10th playing of 'Chicichita' in the same day!
Muchos Gracias

I can cure you! - listen to them sing "Chicken Tikka tell me what's wrong ..................." and the magic has gone forever

Re: Embarrasing, but essential.
Matt! Don't be ashamed ABBA is one of the best groups......EVER!!!! Whilst ironing today with my favourites playlist on Beoport, I must have pressed repeat ten times when "The Day Before you Came" came on! Puncher, I have the original soundtrack fome "The Sound of Music" and "The King and I" both on vinyll if you would like to borrow them. I am a bit ashamed that I like "Scooter" with "The Night" Andy T.

Movie soundtracks contain some greats. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was on today (i have it on dvd as well!) and I know all the words to all the songs due to hearing it every day for 6 years whilst working at my local theme park. Aaaah me old bamboo. The Child catcher still gives me the creeps though.

I have watched half of this film many times. Unfortunately, I always fall asleep during "Hushabye Mountain" so don't know how the film ends. Andy T.

Re: Embarrasing, but essential.
I'm a FOX fan. Who is FOX? Some '70s popband which is pretty good. In 2003 I found a small box with cassette tapes in my grandmothers apartment. Despite the usual Grease and Bee Gees + Abba one song did catch my attention. It was recorded from the radio with the speaker introduktion cut of in both ends. I typed in the chorus on google: He's got magic and found the band FOX. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyZS_dXIntY I had to get the 3 records and I do love it.
