If you'd buy a BS3 today, what Panasonic (or other) screen would you go for?

I've got an "offer you can't refuse": Buy a used Beosystem 3 from a dealer. But I have not the money to buy a BV 4 display. So here is my obvoius question, knowing it has been asked  before but then when D8/9 displays where the only ones available: What Panasonic commersial screen would today be the best choice  for 42 or 50"  or other brand?

     Thanks cjocc

How lucky can you be; an offer you can't refuse for a BS3! Hope I get an offer like that also!

I think these screens would be good choices:

     TH-42PH10EK

    TH-42PF10EK

    TH-42PH9EK

What do you intend to use as center speaker?

    Good luck!

Is there a 50"  full HD Panasonic that would be suitable, to use with Beosystem 3.

I think that this should work:

    Panasonic TH-50PF10EK
    • 50 inch / 127cm Diagonaal
    • 10.000:1 Contrast

    • Full High Definition 1080p

Think about that most non B&O (maybe all) plasma screens block the IR signal of the Beo remotes!

    Thanks Bieele,

Been out travelling so hard times getting online.

I'm thinking of using a 7-4 as center. I hope though the screens you mentioned including the 50" will work  with the Beo4 as some has stated before, here in the forum, with other earlier models of Panasonic

Anything else to consider/be aware of?

I have a TH42-PH9 and can confirm since Software updates this no longer works although it used to work. I also know someone who has a TH-50PF10EK and this does still work

I have the same screen and had the same problem. By tricking the BS3 (SW4.17) telling it's a BV4-50 D9 everything works as if it was a BV4. Also my dealer don't have the answer why I have to do this. Maybe because I use the original Panasonic DVI module. According to another forum member something has to be flashed in the Pana screen or DVI module in order to be seen as a true BV4. I would like to know more about this assumption.

Don't forget to change the setting 'Monitor Auto Detect' to 'off'. Otherwise you run into problems.

I have just set my settings to the same and my monitor now switches on and off fine. Thanks for that

Re: If you'd buy a BS3 today, what Panasonic (or other) screen would you go for?

I have a TH50-PH10 and it works fine even the current software. I only had to switch off the monitor auto detect (with the auto detect on the BS3 thinks it is a Full HD panel and sends the wrong signal)

The G9 and G10 can not be changed to a BV4 as the old panels anymore, this could be done with the old pana screens acording to the service manual (see manual section on beoworld)

Not all dealers stock Professional Displays, guess it would be easier to purchase from on line supplier.

Thought I'd join in here instead of starting a new thread about this.

I currently have a TH42PH10 in my system, and I'm thinking about swapping the Denon Receiver and Speakers with a BeoSystem 3 and assorted B&O Speakers.

Do the dealers entertain the idea of connecting non-B&O screens, or will they not want to know?  I'd expect the chance of making £5.5k on the sale of the BeoSystem 3 might persuade them to look into it, but are 3rd party screens 'supported' by B&O?

It sounds from this thread that my existing screen would work, and turn on/off via the serial port.  Is that the only thing it would do?

Autocontrast will also work, at least with generation 9

How would auto contrast work without a light sensor?  Or is there one in the BS3?  Or is it changed irrespective of light level?

The light sensor is delivered together with the BS3. It's part of the IR sensor.
