    Beoliving Curtains

What is the easiest solution to control curtains with your beo 4 or Beo 5 ?

    Thanks ;-) Jan

You will need a TV with cinema control ( System 3 based/BV7-40 Mk3 or BV7-32 with cinema module) a 12v power supply and relay drive, and motorised lutron curtain rail or similar.

Lintronic is also an interesting option

    Lintronic website

Relay-108, for controlling lights, curtains, and so on.

    Re: Beoliving Curtains

Which language do you prefer / speak ?

(some information is available in other languages,

and there are lots of people that will be willing to help ! Smile  )

The problem isn't really the language but I'm not very technical :-)

I just want to know what to order (i don't have a beosystem 3/cinema thing) but I would like to close the curtains with a Beo 5. From what I understand I will need a Lintronic box and a motorised system for curtains. Is this correct?

And secondly witch motorised system LOL.

    Thanks !!!

Format 0 on a Beo4 gives out a 'low' on pins 6 & 7 of the cinema socket of a Beosystem 3 / BV7-40 MkIII. This output is used to energise a relay to control various items - such as, projector screen, projector drop, curtains etc...

I would always recommend a Beo5 or one of the special Beo4 cinema handsets for this application - much better than format 0!

Always happy to advise on BeoLiving issues...

    Re: Beoliving Curtains

Pins 6 and 7 are Cinema Control 1 and 2 . Pin 5 is Ground. You can connect these outputs directly to a Lintronic -238 box. Use the digital inputs. In my setup cinema out 1 will activate digital input 1 of the Lintronic box. This will activate a macro of different actions: activating power for projector and screen by X10, activating projector by infrared, roll down the screen by infrared, activates Speaker5 mode, diming the light (LC2s) by infrared.

Pressing Cinema (format 0) again, will deactivate digital input 1 and activates another macro, that lets the projector shut down, rolls up the screen, brightens the light....

The newest firmware of the relay 108 got a special feature that supports the BS3 cinema control directly, so you can connect the cinema output to a digital input of the relay 108, and all curtains will close when you activate the cinema mode. Activating TV mode again will open all curtains. You can also control the curtains by Beo4/5.

    Re: Beoliving Curtains

What is a Beo4 Cinema does every beo4 have the cinema option within the list button or is this a specific model? do you have pick?

    Also

if i were to purchase relay 108 does the Connetor connect directly to the RS232 connecor or does pin 6 or 7 connect to digital 1 and ground to gnd?

When i currently press format 0 on my tv the speakers stay on and the screen goes off and pressing it again after a while it comes back on.

    i love the beoliving concept

    Re: Beoliving Curtains

No. Cinema is not an option. There is a Beo4 Cinema with illuminated buttons and display. It has a CINEMA button instead of a RECORD button. But you can use Cinema on Beo5 or FORMAT 0 on Beo4.

You can buy a DSub9 cable cut one plug and connect the pins 5-6-7 to digital inputs  of the relay 108. You will need a srew driver.....

Yes when you press FORMAT 0 , the speakers should turn into SPEAKER5 mode, the Beovision should turn to standby position and close the screen after a while. You can adjust all this in the cinema timings menu. It`s in the customer service menu: Press MENU - place the cursor on OPTIONS and press RED - GO. Now you should find a menu called CINEMA TIMINGS (is I remember correctly and your TV is a BV7 or a BS3)

    Re: Beoliving Curtains

Hello, Beo4 cinema was a prototype, there are very few models in the market. The difference with a normal Beo4 is that 1). It has a back light (which makes sense while in the dark BeoLiving room!), and 2). It has a CINEMA button where the RECORD button is on a normal Beo4. This gives the FORMAT 0 command just by pressing once. It's a fantastic remote, but as mentioned, very difficult to get hold of one!

    Regards, PB

Relax, it's a jungle out there!

so the pins 5-6-7 are digital pins then that connect to the relay board, do you need to tell the 108 that its a digital signal coming in???

    Re: Beoliving Curtains

Pins 5-6-7 are open collectors. You don`t need to tell the relay its digital. because it is just a contact that will be closed when you press FORMAT 0 or CINEMA and openes if you press FORMAT 0 again.

    You don`t need a Beo4 Cinema - you can press FORMAT 0 on every Beo4 - it`s the same...

I `m using the relay board with 24V motor blinds made by somfy. I have connected 14 blinds in 4 groups. They are contolled by LIGHT red, blue, green, yellow, or by Cinema control or by a switch. There are more info in the last newsletters and application notes on the Lintronic homepage.

B&O use the cinema socket on BS3 etc to operate BeoLiving systems. Hence when format 0 selected the TV or panel picture curtains close and the video feed is fed to a projector, and the cinema control on pins 5 & 6 are used to operate other third party options. So it depends very much on what you would like to operate as well.

I would recommend a Stewart Visionary screen, recessed into ceiling or additional bulkhead - size 82" and upwards. A Samsung SP - A800 full HD projector, ideally attached to PD2 projector drop - projector drops from ceiling void.

    Re: Beoliving Curtains

I have a cheap Hitachi TX 300 projector (1100 Euro) and a cheap no name motor-screen. It´s called Cinescreen V5 here in Euroland and costs about 200 Euro and the Lintronic -238 box. I call it the "Beoliving starter set", because for about 1500 Euro you get everything you want and can test the faf - family attraction factor-. And yes, everybody in the family likes it. So we have "family cinema nights" at home in the winter time at weekends, and it`s really great. My newest "cinema-purchase" is a mac mini with a 1 TB HD connected to the BV7 working as a movie server for HD movies and DVDs (DVDpedia).

I saw the Samsung SP800 projector in a Beoliving installation in Kopenhagen, and that`s really great picture quality. Maybe sometime I will switch to that one but for now my installation works great and is a lot of fun........
