    Re: Courier Experiment...

I'm gonna buck the trend here and predict that Martin will arrive unscathed.

My reasoning? It's pretty obvious what they are transporting so they have no excuses to fall back on such as "the box wasn't marked fragile", or the usual get out of jail card - "well if you sign for it without checking the contents then you've accepted it in good order"

    Chris.

The use of metaphors should be avoided like the plague. They're like a red rag to a bull to me.

We ship so much we get a pretty good deal.  It wasn't a fortune to send - surely worth it for the sake of research!

As for the company not having anything to fall back on...  well, they have kicked out claims before by insisting that not enough care was taken in wrapping the item.  They do know how to wriggle out !!

    Not sure about that.
If you send your mum's best cut-glass crystal, insurance may be a problem. If you sent a TV (especially a CRT), it is a TV and it does contain glass but you are insuring a TV.
    10%

I've asked them all and they will not cover any thing with glass in it or on it. This applies to TV's of any type, items such as Ouvertures and it's derivatives, BC9000 and it's derivatives and BS4. These items are insured for loss only.

If you can get them to declare that they will cover these types then I will use that courier company for Beo4life!

    Thanks Graham,

That is worth knowing - I've just checked with my regular courier (www.interparcel.com) and they say that anything containing glass is sent at my own risk (ie. uninsured).  At least they haven't managed to damage any of my 3mm thick steel Beogram wall shelves yet, like Parcelforce did.....Angry

300 miles, one hub, two vans. What happened. Was he smashed into a million and eleventy teen pieces, or did he arrive in better condition than he left ?

Does anyone want to see the photos?

    Re: Courier Experiment...

And finally - the part of every TV i have ever couriered that has been damaged.. the top.

I have had supremely well packed televisions broken by couriers - which i could only assume King Kong had used as a perch for swatting aeroplanes as they were completely marmalised.

However, 'sans packing' - we have a 'top' that actually arrived less dusty than it was sent and a fresh lustre only achievable by a good hand waxing.. Eh? Huh?

    Re: Courier Experiment...

So, there we go - experiment complete.

Proof that a Bang & Olufsen Television can be sent with absolutely ZERO packaging and arrive in almost the same condition it was sent.  My father asked the courier in no uncertain terms when it arrived in a strong Yorkshire accent "So, ow come yer can smash a diamond - but yer can transport this delicate TV with hardly a bluddy scratch?"

The courier mumbled "urr.. we just..err.. deliver 'um"

This then begs the question of how they can destroy items packed well enough to withstand a nuclear blast, but i suppose the delivering courier should have been congratulated as he didn't splatter Martin in his van at the final stage..

May a link to this thread be sent to every courier company that has trashed well packaged goods, and let them explain their actions. Angry

    The End

Epilogue - Martin has been sent to a retired TV sanctuary and was last seen scampering happily across green fields, enjoying his new lease of life in his autumn years. He has made a new friend, an LX5500 called 'Ellie the LX' and romance could well be in the air. Although Ellie is a little old to be making MX1500's, they are already talking about adopting an 8902.
