Beosound 9000 & Beo4 Problem - Help Please
Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and in fact a fairly new owner of a second hand Beosound 9000. (Which I love by the way.) It came without a remote control and has been working just fine. So I bought a Beo4 but have not been able to get it to work with it. The beosound 9000 simply will not respond to anything I do with the remote. I tried putting in brand new batteries and even brought the remote to a B&O store to try it with their system (Beosound 9000). It worked fine. So it seems that it is not the remote but something wrong with the Beosound 9000. The sales person was unable to provide any suggestions. Before I bring the Beosound 9000 to the service department (that's if I really can't live without remote features) I was hoping whether any of you had any suggestions. Perhaps there is a simple solution I am overlooking. Oh yeah, the salesperson did mention something about programing the system. Anyhow, sorry for the long post and thanks in advance.

Do you have speakers connected The BS9000 will automatically switch to Option 0, no reception if you dont have any powerlink speakers connected. If you dont for whatever reason, try pluggin in a pair of headphones - if that works just get a dummy 3.5 mm plug that fits into the socket. I did that on mine to make it talk to my BC2 through the AUX connections. Cheers JK

The BS9000 is connected to a pair of Pentas via powerlink 7-pin DIN cables. I actually had it connected through a minijack before I got the proper cables and it still wouldn't work. Thanks.

Maybe the Beo4 is in link mode. Try: Press STANDBY and LIST button at the same time Press up/down until the display shows "CONFIG" Press 2, 0, 0, 2 and then the display will show "LINK ON" Then press EXIT

Thanks Christian. Tried that too. Got it switched to link on but yet again to no avail. Oh well, thanks for trying. Maybe it is something more serious with the BS9000. Although I've never heard of the IR sensor to go on a piece of electronic equipment.

Forgot to say, that you can and should press the same sequence, so that the Beo 4 is out of link mode.

Re: Beosound 9000 & Beo4 Problem - Help Please
Daniel - Nope. I only have one Beo4 so that's the only one I've tried. But as I've noted above, I tried it with a BS9000 at the retailer's and it worked fine. Christian - Thanks for the additional info. I did it again and this time made sure Link was Off. Unfortunately, it still failed to make a difference.

Do you have a plasma screen in the same room? If you have and it's on, that blocks the ir signals from Beo4. Opman

Did it blink when you gave it the options?

Wow!!! I just tried it with the Plasma ON & OFF and this is 100% right. It solved the problem. It never would have occurred to me and obviously I never caught on that whenever I was trying out the new Beo4 I had the TV on as well. How the heck does it block IR signal? Why does this not effect the TV's remote or DVD? In either case, thanks Opman for the great advise and everyone else that had taken the time to respond with suggestions. I truly appreciate it. Now I got to run and try out my new 'working' remote. :)

B&O remotes (ever since the Beolink 1000) use a 455 kHz infrared carrier frequency, while almost every other manufacturer uses carriers somewhere between 30-50 kHz. This was a very good idea in the old days regarding reliability and range, but unfortunately the plasma screens radiate something that disturb more the higher carrier frequencies.

I have exactly the same problem...I thought I was going nuts or had a bad remote, but it works perfectly when the plasma TV is off.
OK...is there any way out there to correct such a problem?
Thanks in advance

Yes mate you can run the 9000 into your local B&O store and they can put a new chip in it.

Re: Beosound 9000 & Beo4 Problem - Help Please
hello
i had the same problem with pioneer plasma (near 40 cm from the bs 9000).
In the pioneer menu for the picture there are a "cinema mode" and when this mode is on, no problems with the beo 4..
May be you have this kind of mode on your plasma...

Is the 'chip' you are referring to the SW 2.21 upgrade chip?
I installed this chip several days ago (yes, I followed all of the anti-static suggestions), but I don't see any improvement at all. It still won't operate with the plasma TV on.
Do I need to do anything special after installing the chip?
Any recommendations out there?
