    Avant RF modulator

I am trying to set up my Avant so that I can watch its sources on an MX4000 TV in another room via RF. I can get the test pattern OK on the selected output 'link' frequency (601) but only when I bring up the Avant's link frequency tuning menu. Following storing of the settings and selecting v.aux or v.tape on the Avant I get nothing on 601 on the other TV. The modulator is set to on. obviously there a setting I'm missing somewhere. Is there a specific preset I have to use on the MX? I should add that there is no ML betwen the two sets.

    Thanks for any help

    David

    Re: Avant RF modulator

Link frequency would need to be turned to permanently on which may be your first issue. If you don't have the setting ML is the only way to turn it on. From there the default link frequency is generally 599 which is what I would start with rather than 601.You can then tune the frequency to a channel.

I would lookinto ML and Beolink Video.  That way you would have better integration. As it stands there is no way to get V.TAPE or any other command back through to the Avant without ML.

    Re: Avant RF modulator

The V8000 modulator could be used for the purpose but it has to be manually turned on and obviously goes off at standby. I thought I could use the Avant for my V.Aux source but for this I would indeed need the modulator to be on all the time.

I will need to purchase a standalone RF modulator for the purpose with a scart loop through.

    Thanks for the reply,

    Re: Avant RF modulator

    David,

    How good is your memory?

I am having a play with my BV4 & Beosystem 2 with a view to ML it from the lounge into our bedroom BV6 tele, so we can watch video, dvd, stb, lovely.

so rather than bash holes in the ceiling and plumb in some ML cable I had a bit of practice on the lounge floor with an MX4200 we have in the kids bedroom. So cross legged on the rug in front the BV4 the experiments started.

SO..  Unplugged the audio source ML plug for a bit and plugged in an ML cable between beosystem 2 and MX and joined the two with aerial cable from the 'link' socket on the BS2 and the MX.  I set the MX to V.Option 6.

Went into the modulator menu, turned it on, picked a frequency and retuned the MX to match. I got a lovely pair of bars on my test pattern.  I thought to myself I am winning here.  thought too soon. when I came out of the test pattern and went to ordinary tele, snowstorm on the screen, doh.

I can't be far away, when I choose DVD on the MX, the DVD bursts into life so the message goes one way ok but get no signal in return.  However when I switch back from dvd to TV the same picture appears on the MX screen as the BV4.... for a fleeting second and then it goes back to the snowstorm grrr.

I was told that the BS2 was just an avant without the case speakers and screen so if you solved your little dilema you might have the answers for me.

Unless there are some other clever clogs out there.

Pleased I didn't take the drill to the ceiling

    Re: Avant RF modulator

Hi - I have an Avant in the living room and one in the bedroom - to access Satelite I just press SAT, but to access DVD and the living room VCR I have to call up LINK and then DVD or V.Tape - otherwise the bedroom avant is trying to access local sources - hope this helps, it fixed me for a while. Might be the same with an Avant and MX Combo. I the kitchen which just has a Samsung TV and Beolink Active I only have to press the source and no link button, but the picture for all sources is displayed on the Samsung as teh Modulator is switchen on on the avant,

    Re: Avant RF modulator

I remember trying to use the Avant as an RF modulator before discovering the proper Beolink way of doing things as Beoaus advised. I have an MCL system which works fine.

Your BV4 should be in option 1. MX4200 option 6. Try using the link frequency of 599Mhz and the MX should adjust to this automatically. The Avant reference manual says the modulator setting should be "off" for a linkable B&O TV. If this doesn't help I'm sure others more familiar with Beolink will advise.

    Good luck with the drilling!

    Re: Avant RF modulator

Things you need to think over are:

-The BV4 has to be in option 2, it has normally an audio device attached in the same room.

    - There has to be a kind of communcation between the link tv and the mainroom telly, both MCL and ML should work.

    - There are some presets channels on your 4002/4200 (4200 not for sure, more modern). For each link source (TV/DVD/Sat), the MX has a preset programnumber. So, normally you can switch from 1 till 40 (or higher, whatever). Then the presetchannels goes on from 41. You have to store on these presetchannels the linkfrequency.

So, in the link room, choose Sat or DVD, disconnect the ML. this way the command goes to the BS2, the BS2 switches the modulator on and keeps in that situation. Then

Search the frequency on the link MX, then store this found frequency on the (10 I thought) presetchannels above the regular ones.
