    Beolab Penta Blues

    Hello all,

I have some problems with my two pair of Beolab Penta, here it goes:

Firstly I have a pair of Beolab Penta 1 wich I had hooked up via Speakerlink to my Beosystem 7000. However my wheels of my wheelchair destroyed the speakerlink-cable (I can visable see a break in the cabelcasing) wich resulted that that speaker went silent. When I switched cable (working side) the speaker remained silent, no sound, but display still works and I get a "green light" from statuslight as soon I turn on the Beomaster. I plan to haul that speaker to B&O but if I cant convince my friends to muscles up, what is the most likely problem? I suspect that i have shortcuted the speakerlink with my wheel. Beomaster is still ok so the error gotta be in the Beolab Penta 1.

Well thats just for starter :) when my Penta 1 died I found a pair of Beolab Penta 3 wich I then bought but then another stranger problem appeared:

Second problem include my now connected Beolab Penta 3 speakers, I use them via Powerlink with cable i got with speakers. However whenever I use my flouresent light in my kitchen I get very nasty cracklings in both speakers, it only "cracks" just during the "blinking seconds" before the lights are fully lit. I have hade my friends over to muscle around and when I have the speakers connected via Speakerlink I have no problems but as soon I have them connected via Powerlink i get those nasty cracks. Even when I disconnect the Powerlink-cable from speaker but leave it in Beomaster I get the cracking noice (run speaker via Speakerlink) but when powerlink-cable is fully disconnected even from Beomaster the cracking noices are gone. Is the Powerlink-cable I use maybe not screened enough? Should i use a diffrent Mark of Powerlink? Seen that there are both Mark2 and Mark3 of Powerlink. I have no idea wich mark I use now since I got them with my buy.

The problem with my Penta 3 is the one that bugs me the most since I really like the Pentas and really wanna have these "play ball" with the whole of my appartment :D And no, I have now secured the Powerlink so I will not destroy that cable with my wheelchair.. hehe

    Thanx for all help

    Re: Beolab Penta Blues

    Hello agian :)

Managed to get the distubance in my Penta 3 to end with new, better screened cables, but i think i managed to "kill" one of the dispalys (its black). Went back to my old thinner cables and still no display and checked the output of amp with other speaker and i get display there. So i looks like my display is abit broken right now.

I want to cross-check the displays but when i open up the displaycover it look very much diffrent then on my Penta 1, the displayunit seems much more snugg in the Penta 3 and i can see 4 screws that just is calling me to loosen them, now should i loosen them in order to get the displayunit out or is that a big "no-no"? I plan then to do the same on other speaker and switch the two to see if display works then.

    Thanx in advance

Look for the switch at the bottom.

By switching the cables, you've probably set the switch to "video".

Put it back to "Audio" (as it's connectd to a beomaster audio device).

Ahhh thanx for the tip, gotta check if that switch got altered while changing cables, ay ay bad.. hehe

Saw that this site had uploaded much better servicemanual for Penta 2 and 3 now and managed to read in one that im supposed to loosen the screws if I where to check the display, but i will start checking the switch first.

    Thanx

    Re: Beolab Penta Blues

Ayay im all red in my face now of shame hehe

Had a friend over that helped me check the switch and yea it was the switch that have been altered from Audio. Viola now display works :).

However now with my new cables I have started to hear a faint buzz everytime there is a update on display (talk in data-pins) but this is only on right speaker, and while fiddle with right speaker I discovered that "input select" button is abit damaged and only have 2 settings, on left speaker i have 3 diffrent settings and that one is "silent, with no buzzing" so i think maybe that switch is broken and create that buzzing noice. Well i think i need to haul that one to service after all....

     Thanx for the help
