    Serene - DECT communication

    Hi everybody,

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

I'm one of those unfortunate people who bought Serene from Samsung (desktop charger without DECT module).

Today I've got new desctop charger (Part No 8080013) from my local B&O shop.

As far as I know I should get an additional menu on Serene for registration to my Beoline base (p.n. 1113068) when I connect Serene to that new desctop charger - I haven't got. There is nothing about it in desctop charger manual.

Could anyone suggest what might be wrong?

    Thanks a lot,
    Sasha

When it is on it's dock, press

    OK
    Settings

Does option number 9 say "Docking Station"?

Just out of curiosity, Does it say Bang and Olufsen on the hinge, or just Samsung?

    Poor me, never win owt!

No, there is no option "Docking Station" in Settings when Serene is on the new dock.

Serene has both Bang and Olufsen and Samsung on the hinge.

According to FAQ about Serene on the main B&O website there is no difference in Serene sold by B&O and Samsung.
The difference in only in desktop charger.

    Sasha

In which case, I would follow Peter's recommendation and take both your Serene and your new docking station into your dealer for a SW update.
    Please keep us informed.

Yesterday I was working at my local B&O shop and our boss told me that if you buy a Serene from Samsung B&O does not condsider it to be a Serene at all.

Plus they will charge you (in Belgium) 25 euros

OK guys, thank a lot for an advise.

I'll ask my local dealer for Serene software update and keep you informed.

I've asked my local B&O dealer about SW update for my Serene (bought from Samsung) and he told me that it is not upgradeable by B&O at all.

Is it correct? If yes - Is it due to a technical reasons (connectors, protocols, drivers incompatibility)?
Or is it just a administrative barrier to separate responsibility between 2 sell chains?

To be honest I don't believe that there are 2 different SW upgrade procedures for Serenes.
I'm a programmer for 28 years and I can't find a reason for developers to implement 2 different incompatible SW for the same product.

BTW, does anybody know how to check SW version on Serene?

    Best regards,
    Sasha

    Re: Serene - DECT communication

    OK,

Thanks to Quim and Andy we gain some statistics now.

Also the main B&O site provides some information about SW version:
    http://www.bang-olufsen.com/page.asp?id=378&prodid=562
"You cannot synchronise contacts with Outlook if you have an old software version (software version FC1 or FA1).
Only Serene with software version FI1 (or later) can synchronise contacts with Microsoft Outlook.
Please contact your Bang & Olufsen retailer to get your Serene updated."

According to that info we could see that Andy's Serene can't synchronise contacts when Quim's Serene can.

But the most important bit is the fact that firmware version for all 3 Serenes is the same.

    Thus some questions arise again:
    - why they told me that SW in Serene from Sumsung can't be updated by B&O?
    - are there any technical reasons (drivers, etc.) or it is just a policy?
    - has anyone actually tried and failed or it is just a theoretical knowledge?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
That Serene is my present to my wife and I'm just desperate that I can't do what she asked: to synchronize Serene and Beocom 6000.

    Best regards,
    Sasha

    Re: Serene - DECT communication

These are two diferent things: synchronize with Beocom 6000 and synchronize with Outlook.

When I bought my Serene, it came with the SW E910XXFC1, and I did synchronize it with my Beocom 6000, but no with my PC. I updated it to the new SW and as I remember, the aplication used to update the SW, deleted everything I had in the Serene (photos, numbers, etc.), and the old SW, of course.

I think your Serene can be updated to the last SW, I don't think it's driver's reason or another technical reason to can't do it.

    Good luck

    Quim

    Hi Quim,

Yes, I undestand that there are 2 different things: synchronize with Beocom and Outlook.

Could I ask you to specify: have you run the applicaion to update SW in Serene yourself?

    Regards,
    Sasha

    Re: Serene - DECT communication

    Hi All,

I've got my Serene (bought from Samsung) successfully updated to the latest SW by my local B&O dealer.

Now I have the same test results as Quim:

    *#1234#   E910XXFI1

    *#1111#   F:REV 1.0C

But still my Serene doesn't have an option to register to Docking station.

Neither my local dealer's personal Serene has. (Although his Serene can register to Docking station at his home.)

    So now the question is:

How to figure out whether the device I've got from B&O dealer is a Docking station or just Desktop charger?

There is no serial or part number on it, but in my receipt there is Part No. 8080013.

Thanks to everyone for any suggestions.

    Best regards,
    Sasha
