    Re: BV7-40 Bluray?

    355f:

It depends rather what BR disc one is watching ,

Correct. I have around 30 Blu-rays from some of the earliest through to the newest, such as Batman Begins. I've noticed a massive difference - with some no better than the SD equivalents. However, some of the more recent Blu-rays are absolutely stunning. Batman Begins is a very good example.

Indeed, I would only say I'm satisfied with <1/4 of my Blu-ray collection. By 'satisfied', I mean they were worth buying, watching and keeping. The others are only a small step-up from SD.

355f, I share a little of your pessimism after recent events. My new BV8-26 had various issues and had to be sw updated twice. Now my BV7-40. Although my local B&O have been fantastic, I think I'm starting to stretch their patience. However, I just want a BV8-26 that connected to my BV7-40 without issues and I don't want my BV7-40 to switch off unexpectedly. I can live with the white flash issue on the PS3 - but turning off, I can't.

Sounds like you guys are paying more for Blu-Ray in the UK than what we pay in the US.  I just bought batman begins for $20US, and no taxes.

     http://www.deepdiscount.com/viewproduct.htm?productId=43451302

On the UK site someone posted earlier it's $32US

    http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1&sku=807793

The most I ever paid for a BR was $25US for Casino Royale from Walmart last year, the same month the disc came out.

    Re: BV7-40 Bluray?

True. But it's still twice the price of the SD-DVD, and that's my original point. Most average non-B&O (those seeking TVs for £500) aren't going to spend $20 on the Blu-ray when they can get the SD DVD for $8.24. I've watched Batman Begins twice now, but unlikely to watch it again soon. It's a lot of money - for the average person - to watch a film two or three times.

Remember we generally have more spending money and flexibility than most customers, which is why we buy B&O. We also save up for our products. Most consumers do not. I was speaking to someone the other day who was looking for a TV....for £300. Amazing.

Presumably still being sold at a profit, the HDDVD version of Batman Begins is on sale for £5 (Amazon UK) compared to £12 for the Blu-ray version(AxelMusic).

It begs the question, now that the competition from HDDVD has been eliminated, what incentive is there to produce Blu-ray discs at more affordable prices?

    looks interesting

our avant is starting to look a tad old fashioned with all the new gear using hdmi etc , so i would have thought the natural progression is towards a 7/40

seems to be the best set bno currently make , doesn't it ?

a 7/40 with 100hz / 24p and blu ray would be a dream come true

and at c. £6k it's not bad value when you figure in how integrated it all is compared to a sony or pioneer and all the ugly add on kit you'd need to get to the same spec

B&O confirmed in February 2008 that they are working on their version (whatever that means) of 100Hz, but that we shouldn't expect an updated BV7-40 with 100Hz 'for about a year'. So the consensus is end of this year or early next?

With SW 4.3 or higher, let's hope!

    Re: BV7-40 Bluray?

I heard today that the BV7 retro-fittable Blu-ray drive will be available in November! That's the good news. Bad news is that it will be around £400 (pounds, not dollars!).

    That's a lot more than a PS3, so I'm not sure it's worth paying £400 - in addition to my PS3 - to watch a Blu-ray movie?

355f, you have to buy the Beomaster 5 - which has WiFi - connect to your TV and auto-download the new Blu-ray player updates.

    Simple.

I've tested SD DVDs through my internal BV7 DVD player and the PS3 and there's no difference from what I can see (I did a few comparison tests to see which upscaled more effectively).

The PS3 or any current blue ray player does not upscale as well as a good quality upscaling SD dvd player. Only the upcomming new pioneer promises that it might be a machine capable of playing both formats to a high quality. One reason why the new panasonic BD30/50 was scrapped so soon was because of this issue and the Sony SDP300 is another example of an awful sd dvd pl;ayer

We are not talking high quality upscaling dvd player thats already built into the BV7 so difficult to make  valid test, Not for nothing do indviduals who buy high end AV have a dedictaed blue ray and a standalone
