Re: Sw 4.24 has now arrived for BV7-40/BS3/BV9

    355f:

Hand select a samsung panel- come on even you cant believe that!  Samsung dont make quality products- they make cheap products for the mass market.

I rarely agree with 355f, but Trip you're seeing the world of B&O through very rose coloured glasses. From a business persepective, can you imagine how many panels come off Samsung's line every day? Do you imagine B&O have their own guy down their testing each panel individually and selecting the very finest panels?

What I *can* imagine happens is that Samsung grade their own panels and that B&O receive only the AA+ panels from a production run and possibly have the option to swap out received panels, if they don't match B&O's specification (no dead pixels). ie. they can be returned.

Whether Samsung make cheap or quality panels is another discussion entirely. However, the fact that Trip thinks someone from B&O hand-selects panels or that B&O's purchasing power enables them preferential treatment (ie. them affecting the production run), is unbelievable. It's the kind of 'marketing' that I can imagine B&O tell customers to make them think that someone really is hand-selecting the finest panels and they only receive the best.

Go into the picture-menu and put the "size"-potentiometer one step below maximum, and then YOU GET RID OF THE WHITE FLASHES!

I have done this with sw 4.0 and I have NOT seen any white flashes. And now with sw 4.24 I still dont see any white flashes.

YOU DO THIS AND YOU DONT HAVE TO  THINK ANYMORE ABOUT THE WHITE FLASHES!

I vote that you go ahead and give the proof, pictures and all, that all Panasonic commercial panels are the same.  Then we can end this legend and move on to the alien mystery at Area 51 in Nevada.

    355f:
No difference beetween BV4 and commercial panasonic. I will post all the pictures with the backs removed if you desire.

Please feel free to point out any difference!

And, as if any further evidence were needed to prove your point, when a commercial Panny plasma is connected to a BS3, the latter identifies the screen as a specific model of BV4, right down to specifying the size and generation, and therefore monitors and continuously controls the Panny picture parameters as if it were the corresponding BV4 model.

Re: Sw 4.24 has now arrived for BV7-40/BS3/BV9

Moxxey old chap (honoring my avatar), you, me, and 355f are actually all simultaneously correct! Though I do admittedly live in my own private BeoWorld where the streets are paved with anodized aluminum, we do just buy the raw materials from Panasonic & Samsung and 355f is correct that if you "unmask" a BeoVision 4 or 9, you see essentially a Panasonic commercial panel. I can't say exactly when they stopped, but there was a time when they didn't even pry off the Panasonic logo (or at least not add it in the first place). And Mox, old bean, you too are correct that there are not a bunch of Danes with test equipment feverishly trying to test each panel that comes off the line, but we do test large batches of the top grades on site. This is a significantly smaller and more manageable number of screens than the total yield of the production run, but still a considerable task.

Whether or not the Samsung panel is good or not, I have to trust my eyes. Our BeoVision 7 MKIII and BeoVision 8s astound me on a daily basis. We can obviously do something pretty amazing with them as raw material that their virgin panel can't accomplish on its own. If you want to reduce and parse the various components inside that we make, don't make, license, whatever, that's fine. But buy them separately (if you even can), put them together, and tell me if the result looks or performs anything like our televisions.

I'm not being rhetorical. We actually went to the trouble to build ours. We run factories. We employ engineers. We produce products. We win awards. We have a world renowned brand. If what we do is so damned easy, buy yourself some Pixelworks chipsets, a Samsung screen, a pile of glass and metal, and slap something together. I super-duper-triple-dog-dare-you!

    Seacrest out.

(P.S. sorry for temporarily hijacking this fine thread.)

There is scarcely anything in this world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little more cheaply. The person who buys on price alone is this man's lawful prey. - John Ruskin

That's not a fix. I'm re-sizing my image on the TV to fix a problem that shouldn't exist? Do not use capitals Martin, either.

Also, I don't know about you, but the white flash on the PS3 is about 10cm from the bottom of the screen. I'd have to resize significantly to remove that.

    TripEnglish:

Whether or not the Samsung panel is good or not, I have to trust my eyes.

Absolutely. I'm in total agreement that the BV7-40 MKIII panel is superb, with the right source. I was showing the B&O engineer The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe on Blu-ray, with uncompressed PCM, and he agreed you'd struggle to find a better AV experience. Picture was superb (10/10), audio the same.

However, there's no-one at the Samsung factory. Like any production line, these panels are mass manufactured and produced to a specification that does not change between panels. There might be a 0.01% difference, but that's all. The only key difference between B&O panels and regular panels from the same production line, is that the B&O panels may have 0 dead pixels, whereas companies such as Apple believe that a commercial LCD can have at least two dead pixels, before it should be replaced.

B&O will specify to Samsung that they want panels with 0 pixels and other similar specs and they'll then pay a premium for these panels.

    Doc:

    And?

Now the 4.24 is installed, and i have only tried movies recorded in 1080/24p with my TVIX HD7000 and 48Hz is shown in the costumer setup.

But the picture gets all brightened up and a fine line goes all over the picture in every movie!...

I haven't heard of the problem from TVIX owners, so i wounder what the problem is..If i only play the normal setting 1080p 50Hz the picture is perfect as before the 4.24 uppdate. But i want 24p to work fine.

Have anyone notice that the picture gets all brightened up when playing Blue-ray?

    Regards

Sadly I can't do any more testing for a week as I lent my PS3 to a friend. However, I noticed absolutely no difference, apart from a slight improvement with panned landscapes. You *can* see an improvement, but it's not perfect.

Re: Sw 4.24 has now arrived for BV7-40/BS3/BV9

I have solved the problem with the 24p issue! I went in to the service menu and set the Movie Mode from Yes to the default option  Auto, and now it´s work´s perfectly .. It made a conflict between the Movie Mode and the 24p Mode in the BV7.. Now the picture are much more solid and smooth...

It is not a joke, but it is a misunderstanding.  5.0.8 is the latest version of the Sevice Tool (MK2), the latest version of the BS-3 software is 4.24

You are using the Service Tool program to flash/update the most B&o products trough the Masterlink. (Including PUC updates)

match the serial number on the box with the one on the tv and you will know who mixed them.  Demo, perhaps?
