    Beomaster 3500 - 2 quick questions

    Hi there

I am considering buying a Beosystem 3500 and wanted to verify 2 quick things, please:

1 - this system will drive passive speakers and

2- it can be used with a beolink 1000 remote

any comments on the 3500 - good or bad - also appreciated!

    cheers

    Re: Beomaster 3500 - 2 quick questions

    Yes to both questions!

It will drive active speakers via the powerlink sockets, or passives using the built in amplifier via the speakerlink connections.

The Beomaster 3500 was designed to be used with the Beolink 1000, so no problems there.

The only thing I would suggest is to rebond the glass control panels, if it hasn't already been done. The original tape used seems to perish like the older speakers foam surrounds do. Replacement glass panels are no longer available from B&O, so make sure its stuck firmly!

I just picked up a Beosystem 3500 for a good price, and am currently half way through this process.

     Cheers,

    Ben

what does re-bonding imply? remove, clean, 2sided tape or is it more complicated?

    thanks, both, for the responses!

Basically remove, clean old tape, and re stick with your preferred choice of either carpet tape, epoxy, RTV etc.

I used RTV, simply because its what I had to hand. Other people seem to have used epoxy and others carpet tape.

    Ben.

You must remove them for the plastic surrrounds, clean the plastic and the glass and then re-glueing the glass to the plastic. I used black car silicon. Worked like a charm!!!

This indeed very important if you are planning to mount it on a wall.

If think the 3500 series is good. It is just like the 4500 the only difference is the styling (and some of the 4500 is equipped with 2way communication). They both have full link capabilities, and good amplifiers. They will work with any one of the remotes: Beolink 1000-5000-7000, Beo 4-5. They have Datalink, which means that you can connect ANY tape, cd-player etc. from the following BeoSystems: 3300-3500-4500-5000-5500-6500-7000. In all the 3500 is a very versatile unit.

    Living room: BV7-40 mkIV + V8000, BL5, BL3, BM1 and BS9000. Bedroom: MX3000 and BL4500 on MCL2-AV. Around: PentaIII, CX100 and MCX35 on ML/MCL + MCL2-A, BeoPort and BL4 on ML, BS3300 + M75 as stand alone, BC6000 + BC600 and BT1100, LC1, LC2, Beo4, Beo5 and BL1000, BS2 and A8, EarSet2, Apron, Coffee mugs, Enamel Bagdes, Bath towel, Keyring, Books, Lots of miniature and the Bottle opener. Office: BC2300 + BL2500 and BS3. Summer house: BS Century.

    Addicted? Oh no.... ;)

My RL35 are packed away, but my RL1000 which are essentially the same speaker have the fittings in the back for wall mounts.

    Re: Beomaster 3500 - 2 quick questions

i read that the a light touch on the panel of the 3500 gives access to the system: is that a controls access or does that mean that the door opens with the light touch (is the door automated / mechanical or is it manual, would be the other way of asking the question!)

thanks again!   i am still leaning towards this beauty, too bad about the rl35 not hanging though!

    Re: Beomaster 3500 - 2 quick questions

The panels are motorised. If you touch 'load' on either the Beocord or Beogram CD, then the panels open to reveal the cassette or CD, and some secondary controls in the case of the Beocord.

upon further review... i have a pair at hand...

i actually don't think now that the rl35's had a wall mount option.

my bad, unless anyone can confirm otherwise.

in the product section it says:

"Red Line loudspeakers followed your music tastes right up the wall if you wanted! All models except the RL35 could be hung on the wall or be suspended from the ceiling;"

    Re: Beomaster 3500 - 2 quick questions

I read on one of the beo sites that you can compare a Beocentre 9500 to a Beosystem 4500, and a 8500 to a 3500. The Beosystem 4500 and 3500 are basically 9500 and 8500's in seperate boxes.

One of the advantages of the Beosystem is the ability to be wall hung.

An 8000 is an even more basic version, which lacks the ability to connect in multi room systems, with only 2 pin speakerlink, and no powerlink for connecting any of the powerlink equipped speakers.

If you are only looking to drive passive speakers, it may be fine for you! The glass control panels still suffer the same as the 3500 and 4500 though, so make sure you rebond well.

    Re: Beomaster 3500 - 2 quick questions

yes you can mount the 8000 but i think i need to find mounts since none are incuded? the 3500 i am looking at includes them which makes it easier (although the 3500 has the rl35s which can't be mounted and the 8000 has rl60.2s which can be!!!)

nothing is easy.. .. i have emailed a couple of shops hoping to hear that they can sell me mounts for the 8000 at a reasonable price but haven't yet heard back - nor found too many alternative sources so far (fact is, I actually have to do a little work in and around my b&o shopping!)

    cheers again!

BC8000 is not supposed to be mounted. When I am correct the max angle would be 15°....

    agree w/ kallasr...

the bc's of that era were not wall mountable in the vertical plane.
they could be set, of course, on a wall mounted support -but only horizontally or up to the mentioned ~15 degree inclination. the reason for this was for proper functioning of the cd mech.

on the other hand, all the 3500 components were wall mountable -less the beogram.

personally, owning a pair of rl35's, i would not let them be the deciding factor in your purchase, particulary if it is just because you can not wall mount them (which sounds important to you.)

i would recommend the 3500 over the 8000 as it also a better system in the long run.
you could always sell off the rl35's, and... go after a set of proper wall mount speakers later.

may i suggest the bv/bl3000-5000 mondrian panels for the 3500 system? they are period correct and would look especially fantastic w/ a wall mounted 3500...

in the end you'd have a great system!

    Re: Beomaster 3500 - 2 quick questions

that certainly makes a difference!! Agreed also re the speakers: the system is core and the speakers I guess I can deal with separately! (problem is that convincing my wife included wall-mounted speakers as that is what is needed in that room!

i am assuming it shouldn't be a problem if the 3500 is mounted over a radiator (30+ cm above it on the wall?) If it is i can select an alternate wall but would prefer the one with the radiator.

    thanks again!

well. i am chuckling a little bit... i could see you buying the 3500 -remending all the glass pieces so they don't fall, and then... that radiator under it... softening adhesive (not to mention extra heat on the electronics) and... KERPLUNK!

you may want to consider a different locale ;-)

at any rate, thinking a bit more about this... if you decided to keep the rl35's -we could intro you to the world of mcl and link rooms. at this point -just collecting an extra speaker kit and some cabling and you could have your self a dandy 2-room setup.

am i assuming correctly that this may be your first b&o?

    keep us posted!

    Re: Beomaster 3500 - 2 quick questions

good point on the radiator... so since i can do the other wall I will (it is just that the radiator wall is closer to the PC and a bookshelf, making for a better location for an ipod connection to the 3500 Aux port...

as for my first b&o, no. I have a Beomaster 5000 and the MCP as my primary amp, with a DVD / CD player and a wireless media player plugged into it, along with a pair of B&W speakers in my front room... the 3500 is for my home office

have never given any thought to the mcl room linking thing before - but i am open to ideas!

and i have to say, having taken a look, the panel speakers Christian mentioned look great (but are likely on the pricey side, if i can find a pair!)

another option for you re: speakers

i don't hear much about them, but the p series are likely a bit more affordable wall mountables. i have a pair of p45's and they look great, very reserved compared to the mondrians.
