    My dad's 1987-88 Beosystem in storage ..

My dad was clearing out his storage and asked me whether I wanted his Beosystem complete from about 1987 or so,

which he had B&O Hong Kong come and installed in his flat. When he sold the flat later in 1992, he had the system

moved into storage. The catch has been that sometime between going into storage and now, no one can find the

wire harness that tie the whole system together. Without it .. the system is useless of course. Well, I told him I'll

take it and don't throw it away. But I probbably had to have good luck to locate the entire wiring speghetti that goes

behind the Beosystem from that vintage. Can someone point me in the right direction to try and find the part(s) I need ??

    Thanks in advance!

Take some pictures and/or post type nr. (see stickers on the back), so we know what system you are talking about.

We do need a bit more information to be able to help you. It shouldn't be too difficult though.

It's almost certainly worth keeping though, some of these old systems are still worth a lot of money - some of them will sell for over £1500.

Getting hold of the cables is relatively easy...

Thanks for the welcome and the replies. I'm getting good vibes that we may be able to restore the system. I absolutelye fell in love with it when I stay in the extra bedroom while on school break. It's one of those that has the tower speakers and that you can turn on the system from any room. No worries. I saved it from the garbahe pile or from it going to someone who has no idea what it is .. Once I get it (it has to be shipped over to where I am), I'll be posting pictures right here. The main components do look like those 5000, 5500, or 6500 being silver squarish little stackable modules. Stay tuned & thanks in advance! ;)

well, the listed components *should* have all the leads integrated? i.e. they should all plug into the master w/o anything extra.

you likely need the leads to the speakers (whatever they are -sound like maybe pentas) -depending on wether they are active or passive will determine which leads you require.
you likely will also need an am and/or fm aerial.

i think you may be much closer to re-assembling this than you think.

let us know how it goes, and welcome to beoworld!

re-reading your post, it sounds as though this may also have some mcl82 or mcl components for link rooms. that, of course is a different matter. i would suggest getting the main system up and running first, and then we can help you out w/ what cabling you may require for the link room(s)...

Re: My dad's 1987-88 Beosystem in storage ..

If it's a 5500 system or similar (5000, 5500, 6500 and 7000 are all part of the same group) then it's still one of the best systems B&O have made...

Yes, it sounds like a 5500 system with Pentas.  Definitely one of the better B&O systems.  As Jeff above me mentioned, it sounds like the mess of wires you mentioned was only for the multi-room linkage, and won't be necessary for setting the system up and listening to it in one room.  The components of the system should have permanently attached cords, which will plug into the back of the beomaster (receiver).
