    Beogram 1200 setup

I just got my hands on a Beogram 1200. I'm not quite sure how to set it up. I know to set the cartride weight (SP14A = 2) but further down the tone arm at the back is another adjustment that you can make. Now I have no idea when to know if its adjusted properly. Also there is a speed adjuster on the side of the deck which i have adjusted to what seems to be the right speed.

If anyone can explain it me I'd be grateful.

There is no user manual for the 1200. Downloaded the manual for the 1202 which is slightly different. Is the setup the same as the 1200 especially when it comes to the counter-weight? I've done exactly as they say when setting the counter-weight but then the stylus doesn't touch the record??

As far as I can gather Jeff, the adjuster on the end of the arm sould be set while the other adjuster is on zero grammes, to balance.
In this position, the stylus won't lower, but just hover in mid air. It is only when you set the weight to 2 grammes that it will lower.

    Hi Andy

Thats exactly what I did, but when I added the 2 grammes afterwards, the stylus still does not touch the record!! I'm presuming the 2 must be where the small indicator line comes out of the arm.

     Thanks

Yes. When set to 2 grammes, the 3 will be pointing to your ceiling.
Does the arm attempt to rise and lower?

    Not a problem Andy!! lol!!

The arm works like it should but the counter-weight pulls the stylus up. If I set the weight when its on 2 then I can get it to work fine, but it seems to be a bit distorted. Also is the arm supposed to be able to move around ie. left to right in the round circle it goes through where the stylus adjuster is located?

When you say "left to right", do you mean across the record, or rotating like a pencil between your finger and thumb?

    Re: Beogram 1200 setup

no I mean where the adjuster for the stylus is, the tone arm is loose can move left and right on the small stylus adjuster rod. Its just in front of the counter-weight. So the arm isn't always in the middle of the rod or the circle that surrounds it. I hope I'm making some sense!!

I see. Obviously up and down movement should be there, in the circle, but I don't think there should be left and right movement.
    There isn't on my 1202.

Fixed!!!  Thanks SO much Andy. The the part that the counter-weight screws on (bolt?) needed to be tightened as it also keeps the tone arm from sliding around on the stylus adjustment rod! Did the balancing with zero grammes and then adding the 2 grammes and it worked like a dream!!

     Yay for Andy and Beoworld!!

    Re: Beogram 1200 setup

I think I have a user manual for the 1200, got it after sending B&O an email and asking for it!

Don't forget to set the speed adjuster to 0 (the dial on the left) when you're not using it for a while; eases the tension on the belt I think.

    Pete.
