    BM4500 and 2-way

Is it still possible to upgrade the software in a BeoMaster 4500 to 2.1(or later) in order to get 2-way communication? Are the EEPROMs still in stock?

If so, will it work with my precious MCP 6500 or did it only work with BL5000?

Would make up a great weekend gift. Big Smile

    Re: BM4500 and 2-way

If you want a bi-directional remote to control a BS4500, you need a BL5000 or a BL7000. As fas as I am aware, there is no bi-directional communication between a MCP6500 and a BS4500. The MCP 6500 is dedicated to the BS6500/7000.

Crap! What differs between bl5000 and an mcp? Are there two versions of 2-way communication?

Not sure if the microprocessor has the version printed on it or not. But if it does its is just a nerv wrecking matter och cracking the master open. Smile

Do you suspect that the software has been updated? Otherwise the sw version is printed next to the unit serial number.

I am afraid there is!!! Otherwise an MCP would work properly with a BC9500 and it does not!!!!

honestly, the bm is new to me. i got it about (2) months ago -still in the bubble wrap.

so, i have not been able to chk the sticker on the back.

i thought perhaps there may be some cmd's you could throw at it -that might display the current sw rev.

the risk as i see it -is that it may have been flashed at some point, but the newer sticker may not have been placed. -i would sure like to know before investing in bl7000...

    Ok thats somewhat annoying.

Could we perhaps put togeather a list of which 2-way remote works togeather with what unit? I for one would very much appreciate it.

Btw, if the mcp was used just for BS6500 and 7000, how come that the BL7000 works with BS7000?

    Re: BM4500 and 2-way

You could check if the 2-way is working by switching it on,
adjust a setting, f.e. the volume and look (close-up) if the ir-emitters blink
(very faint, may take a few seconds before they blink)

The emitters are located in the glass panel, see image below.

    My BM4500 only works in 2-way with Beolink 5000 & 7000,
with the MCP 6500 there is no contact.

looks like i am going to have to unpack it... lol

i would love a bl7000, but they seem to demand huge $$$

There are two sets of control codes, MCP and Beolink.

It's simple enough, the MCP only works 100% with BM stacking systems but some 5500 and all 6500/7000 are beolink compatible as well!

Made two of my BM3500's two way with eprom part number 8341178 this give's you software 2.2 , it's the same part that's in the BM4500 . Easy to change and not expensive ( about £30 ) but don't know if they are still available .

    Re: BM4500 and 2-way

I've rebuilt several BM3500 and found out that not all BM3500 have the 2-way hardware.
    (no ir-emitters)
On the BM3500 that didn't have that hardware i added the
hardware + eprom + mirror panels of a broken BM4500,
et voilá, a black BM3500 with mirror panels and 2-way

    Nice!

To me there is nothing better than 4500. You wouldnt happen to have a broken cd4500 you are willing to sell for parts? Need to refurbish mine a litte.

    @ a2bur

Did you get the parts from a dealer? Was this recently or should I excpect the worst?

Got the eprom from my dealer but was a few years ago , it was one of the few parts that was still available then , so would be even less now . If I remember correctly these eprom's can be copied if you have the equipment .

    Re: BM4500 and 2-way

I thought the 4500 software for 2-way communication was 2.0 and up, and that the 2.1 on the website was a typo.  That would make more sense, as usually the first number (the 2) is used to indicate major changes, whereas the number to the right, after the decimal, is used to indicate minor revisions.  Since 2-way communication is likely the biggest revision made in the 4500, I would expect that 2.0 would indicate it, not 2.1.

I suppose one would never have a spare bg cd 4500. Stick out tongue

I need the glass panel and if possible the chassi (could paint a 3500 aswell). I am currently having my dealer checking if grill and mirror panel is available otherwise i might be in need of that too. Wink

If you have a grill for the beocord that would be awsome!

Btw, does the chassi of the beogram differ from that of a beocord?

    Re: BM4500 and 2-way

I can't think of another code than the one Peter mentioned in the other topic :

    - power off on Beomaster (disconnect from mains)
    - on Beolink 1000, press RADIO
    - plug in Beomaster 4500 (connect to mains)
    - press 1271 PLAY on Beolink 1000

    Re: BM4500 and 2-way

Thanks, I'll try when I come home. Is there anyone that has the code for Beomaster 3500 if the code for Beomaster 4500 doesn't work?
