This morning when I went to use my phone, the message out of range was indicated on both handsets, even when standing next to the base.  The directory on both handsets works perfectly  The green light on the base is on.  The handsets both have a blinking red light whether on the base or not.  I have checked all connections to no avail. 

Can anyone tell me what is wrong and how to repair it?

Hi Ira Jane and welcome to Beoworld.
The first thing I would do is disconnect the Base from the mains, maybe even take the batteries out of the handsets and after a few minutes, base on first then reconnect the batteries. Sometimes this resets every thing. If not, come back to us and we will take it from there.
