    Beocord 5000 - Tape plays then stops within 2 seconds

    I need a few hints on where to look for the following fault on a Beocord 5000. If I insert a tape it plays for about 2 seconds then stops. The same happens if you try and rewind. If you hold the solenoid in by hand the tape will play with no problems. I suspect that there is a fault in the control circuit to the solenoid but I am not sure of where to look for the problem, Any pointers would be much appreciated. Many thanks - Neil

    Which Beocord 5000? I am sure I cannot help (not very technical) but someone may, so the Type number is useful.

    In case this is the older Beocord 5000 (type number 4705 or 4715) it could be the tape counter's belt. If it is loose, cutted or missing the counter won't move and the mechanism stops the playback believing that the tape has ended. Or the right-hand side circuit board (of the control buttons and tape counter) has some loosened solderings (thick wires and they tend to come off) of if the board is cracked (my BC5000 won't rewind in case the board is not rised from the top corner - glad I have an extra board somewhere).

    Sounds like a belt problem. There's a little belt for the motion sensor but I would recommend you replace the lot. Belt sets are readily available.

    Martin,

    Many thanks for the advice. You say belt sets are readily available and I assume you mean from a B & O dealer or are there any specialised companies that are able to supply.

    I don't think B&O can supply the belts but there are other and cheaper ways.
