Quick question on HD Audio.
One of the perceived benefits of Blu-ray discs is the availability of HD audio formats. The method by which these are available can vary. In some cases decoding is performed at player level. In other cases at receiver/ processor level.
At present neither BS3 nor the surround sound processor in my own BV 7/32 can perform such decoding.
Presumably therefore I have to depend upon decoding in the player ?
This then begs the question of whether or not this "enhanced" soundtrack can be transferred via BV 7/32 to my B&O speakers ?
I welcome any thoughts on how the BV 7/32 will handle this and connections. Given that BV 7/32 does not have HDMI I am currently transferring audio signals via an optical to coaxial convertor. Does this in anyway limit my ability to get the benefit of the HD sound formats and am I in effect listening to normal dolby 5.1 ?
Since I have no back to back comparisons to run I am unsure. Furthermore the cynical side of me is tempted to wonder if the "perceived" benefits of HD is mainly manufacture hype.
