I currently use my Mac Mini to play music (itunes) via Airport Express with Airtunes connected to my BC9500 which I love to use and the sound quality is ok for me. I have read with interest of the last few months about the iRed software and think that it is a fantastic idea and would like to take advantage of this facility.
My Mac Mini is operating with OS X 10.4.11
I have a copy of Leopard but have not yet installed it.
I have also not purchased an ipod or the iRed software.
So Before I proceed can I call upon the considerable knowledge on the Beoworld forum to advise me?
Question1
Should I install Leapord, have the compatability problems with iRed been resolved yet?
Still waiting. This is the site http://www.filewell.com/iRed2/
And you don't need iRed to control the Mac mini with an iPod Touch. iRed and irTrans is for controlling the components, switching them on/off, etc.
Question 2
Unless I am making a really silly mistake I am currently unable to connect to the internet and my Airport base at the same time, I have to select one or the other. So, If i install the iRed software will I be able to connect to the Airport base (to listen to the music) and the iPod (remote control) at the same time some how?
If the advice you received doesn't resolve the issue, then redo your setup. Just press the reboot button on the Airport base.
But are you certain that your ethernet from the router is connected to the right port in your Airport base station?
Question 3
Sorry if this seems really basic but I just want to be sure............My understanding is that if I have an iPod Touch and I install the iRed software on my Mac Mini I will then be able to listen to itunes throughout my home via the BC9500 and use the iPod Touch as a remote control. i.e sit in my dining room (which is linked to the BC9500) and scroll via coverflow on my iPod Touch to choose my listening?
You need Remote Buddy, which you can download from the internet and activate. You won't need iRed.
You'll be set in a few minutes once you've downloaded and purchased Remote Buddy.
