    4002 tonearm movement

I have noticed that my Beogram 4002 tone-arm has a considerable back and forth motion during play. I would guesstimate that it is as much as 4mm of side to side movement. By comparison my Beogram 4000 has a back and forth movement of say 2mm or less.

    So is the normal?

When I first received the 4002 I noticed that the 20EN cartridge had a great deal of movement as well and decided that the shaft must be broken and I replaced it with a 20CL which does not move.

The sound quality is excellent and there is no skipping, but I was wondering if something is amiss or requires adjustment.

    What do you think?

    Re: 4002 tonearm movement

Sounds like the adjustment of the diaphragm is slightly off. It's in the service manual.

    Re: 4002 tonearm movement

    Hi Martin,

You were right on target; it was a small adjustment on the diaphragm. Now there is almost no movement at all…. which I hope is correct.

One by-product of this adjustment was the tone arm refused to pick up at end of play. Another small adjustment and the Beogram 4002 is performing in top form.

    Thank you very much!

    Jeff
