Help please, Beosound 9000 wont work.

Right, i have mounted and wired my beosound 9000 and beolab 6000's up.  Problem is i cannot get the cd's to play, the clamper moves up and down ok, seems to release the cd's from the jaws holding them, but then does nothing and displays "pause" after a few moments.....

    Whats up????

Have you turned the 2 screws for the cd mech on the back in the right direction?

Are the two screws on the back set up correct?

Guys  99% sure they are correct,  will now double check,

although i dont think they would  stop the cd unit functioning though if set wrongly.??

Think so.. as I doubt the laser is aligned correctly to read the cd? or for some other reason but even if one is slightly out it may not read.

Failing this, give it a good clean, both black shiny plastic pieces either end of the changer.

Your symptoms would appear to have nothing to do with the two settings under the 9000. These merely centre the whole cd mechanism relative to the chassis when the unit is placed in different orientations.

Things that can cause this symptom include:-

Dusty IR safety beam - Clean the clear plastic pyramids either end of the CD bed. These are designed to prevent the unit operating if fingers etc are in the area.

Dusty CD laser lens - A bit difficult to get at unless you know what you are doing. The service manual is on site for silver and gold members and this gives instruction. Some people have reported success with CD cleaning discs but I have my doubts!

    Knackered CD mechanism.

Let us know how you get on.

    Regards Graham

All looks clean,  the cd's simply wont spin round!  The thing only arrived from lifestyle av yesterday,  so shouldnt be problematic surely?

Aah! You didn't say that before. Don't meddle with it. Phone Lee at LifeStyle-AV. That is what the warranty is for.

Out of interest - can this be easily damaged in transit?  The unit was tested before it left, and only sat in bubble wrap with a quilt round it whilst it was driven from our shop to Scotland..

Never happened before - quite worrying!  As Peter has mentioned, all covered by warranty though.

I am sure this is just bad luck. You never know, another journey and it might work! The optical heads on these are reported to be a little prone to fail.

Despite other posts to the contrary, you are not the almighty!!

These items are complex pieces of mechanical/optical/electronic equipment. Somewhere in the advertising they do state how many component parts the 9000 contains. With the best will in the world, things do fail.

Everybody should live with that 'cos to deny it is folly!
