    STB-C /MX/decoder problem

    Hello everybody.

I'm french. I'm new here in the forum (a couple of weeks). Recently I bought a beautiful & perfect black & white "second hand" MX 4000 with Beo4 remote control. it includes STB-C hardware and a wire to connect to a decoder (in my case a sagem decoder for french digital broadcast tv (TNT)).

I had a look at the manuals section and found some useful documentions but .. I'm still having problem with this configuration. my Beo4 don't drive the decoder. So I have some questions for you:

    1. Is there an official & updated B&O list for STB-C code ?
    2. Is there a way using the Beo4 to know the current value of the entered code ?
    3. Could we change the actual code ? I ask this because manual indicates

Set up the Set-top Box Controller

"Make sure your set-top box is switched off before you activate the Set-top Box Controller. This is a 'once only' operation."
    4. Is there a way to know the current STB-C chip version embedeed in the MX ?
    5. same with the version of the MX software?  is there a way through remote control to display software version ?
    6. As a consequence is there a correlation between MX software & STB chip version to provide correct functioning ?

=> For example in my case, if I look at decoder Sagem ICD4231 as a reference, depending of the STB-C list, I can find different codes:

    • code 24 (table 3.81)
    • code 22 (table 3.91)

Which is the good one ?

many thanks in advance and I appologie for my poor english

    Smile

    Flamel

When it says 'once only', it means that it remembers it. You can choose a different number if the first is not correct.

    To start at the beginning.

Did you enter VAUX to one of the sockets in the setup menu from the MX?

Do you use a proper Scartcable between the MX and the Sagem?

Did you install the wire with the infra red eye in front of the Sagem box infra red eye?

Did you use VAUX to activate the Sagem?

    Hello,

    1 > YES

    2 > YES

    3 > YES

4 > ? - What did you mean ? Did I enter a code for the Sagem decoder ? if so YES but it's part of my previous questions . Which one is good ?

    regards

If you enter the setup menu from the MX you can assign the "name"to the AV sockets on the back.

So you can select CDV, Sat or Vaux at AV1 or AV2.

So after selecting Vaux on the Beo4 followed by Go, does the screen goes dark?

Press menu, do you get the menu bar on the left?

Ok, thanks for explanation... So I understand the last question..

    >>> Did you use VAUX to activate the sagem ?

Yes absolutely. I select V.AUX from the List button then GO button. The screen show me the french chanel#3 (digital channel) and if I press menu button I have the menu with 3 choices (first isV.AUX sub-menu) BUT ....

problem is I can't change chanel. the only thing I can is to look at chanel #3 nothing else. any other BeO4 buttons seem not functionning ... Any inputs are welcomed

    Re: STB-C /MX/decoder problem

My understanding is that once the STBC has been programmed for a particular box ... it can "never" be programmed for another.  i.e. if you bought it secondhand and it had already been set for a Thomson box for example ... you can NOT then program it for something else.  This is different to the later units in the Avant, BV3 etc. which can be changed whenever you want.

That having been said ... if one swaps out the SW chip with a "new" one from the dealer ... you can have another "onetime" go.

However, I am prepared for someone to tell me I am wrong on this!

Sorry, but that doesn't sound logical to me.

The way the STB is programmed is the same as with the DVD controller.

That has to be programmed by using: DVD, VSetup, Tune, [1-3] [1-3] Go.

It would be the first and only controller which could be programmed only one time, no I don't think so.

My experience with the DVD controller was that sometimes if you wanted it to program, it didn't work out well.

So, sometimes I used an extra Go between Tune and the first number.

OK, I would be delighted to hear that if its the case as I have one that is set for Sky and would rather it was for something a little more useful to me.  My understanding was that both the DVD-C and STB-C for the MX range could be set once only for life.  Perhaps I will give this a try!

As for the DVD-C, I've used it for Philips and for Onkyo. Had both the MKI and the MKII.

Both uses the same way of programming.

Well have a go then! Laughing I would have a go with mine but I don't have a different set top box. I have re-programmed the DVD-C as I put in the wrong code first time - or at least one that didn't work!

    1. there is a list with the latest software, sorry I don't have it.

    2. No

3.try to press TV, Menu, 0, 0, Go (or Play), you will see the tv software. Try using the arrow keys to reveal the STB softwareversion.

If it won't work, open the MX and look for the STB-C chip (an installation manual is on the site) The software version is printed on the chip.

Remember that each software release has it's own table of codes.

    4. Yes, see point 3.

    5. Have you checked if the infrared (wire) is functioning well? Does your Sagem has a led which will light up when your using the original remote?

By using the infrared-wire, this led on the Sagem has to work also. Even when the entered code is wrong.
