New or old, seems an easy question but.....

OK some of you guys talk about buying speakers like it is no big deal. I think the general age of this forum is, well a wee bit older than I (24). I am considering some B&O speakers (I have beolab 4s PC and a beosound 1), I have always loved the beolab 6000 ever since they were released. I can remember going with my Dad to a store somewhere to try them out.

I have my heart set  on them. A new pair in Japan is 400,000 yen (1,900 UK), which is quite a lot considering that I am teacher and my salary is good but not B&O good. I have the cash, just about to pay for them. My friends have suggested selling the BS1 to help pay for them, but I love this stereo always have and always will, I can't sell! Is anyone else attached to their stereo as I am. It will be my bedroom stereo.

Now to the bones, a new pair is 400,000¥ (1.7 months wages) or 200,000¥ second hand (reasonable pair). If I get a second hand pair, will I be gutted I didn't pay the extra or will I be gutted that I did?

If it was a generic brand like sony I wouldn't be asking this question but the cost and the fact that B&O are built to last. Basically, what are you opinions on buying new or old? Obviously, new I get the warranty. Its not a question of if I buy anymore, its where from and when.

Cosmetic considerations aside, as long as the tweeters are both working and the bass drivers are in good condition then the age of the 6000's is not important. There have been no major changes to 6000's since launch so I would go with a good second hand pair.

    Regards Graham

Agree go for used ones, I have purchased BL1, BL2, BL4000, BL4500 all as used speakers and never had any problems with them. In all cases I have bought demonstration models and this way still got a got level of guarentee.

    Good luck with you choice,

Agree! I would always buy that age of product second hand. Lots around and half price. Make sure they are not scratched though!

Thanks guys you pretty much confirmed it. Now the waiting game, they are quite rare in Japan. So a wait is needed now. I need time anyway to save for a BV8. Hopefully around the same time I will get them.
