Well - the spare unit seems to be working which is ironic isn't it? As in you power it up and press 'ON' and it goes across and drops the needle, you get sound and pressing 'OFF' picks up the needle, moves the assembly to park position.
The 'main' unit still spins the platter as soon as the power is switched on and 'OFF' seems to work, but not 'ON' and you can't lower the arm. Also, you can move the arm across the record manually but it is very slow, whereas moving it back across to the start position is very quick.
At least they don't make the sounds that they did a few hours ago.
