Is there an Avant near Malvern?

My TV died just before Christmas, and is likely to be beyond economic repair. I'm very tempted by the idea of a second-hand Avant, but I hate the idea of buying without having seen one, and talked with an owner who isn't trying to sell me one!

Would anyone on this list happen to live near Malvern (Worcestershire) and own an Avant which they'd be willing to demonstrate to me?

    Thank you in advance,

    Mark

Don't worry your self over this. It is a no brainer. The Avant is quite simply the best picture on the market and they are available at silly cheap prices.

You can take this from a Dinosour who has just joined the widescreen club with an Avant 32!!!

I agree with Graham. The Avant is superb, and sound to match as well. You won't be disappointed.

Just to add what has already been said. Probably one of the best, if not the best CRT TV's ever made.

agree with the above! Even the early ones that people don't reckon as much are still great - if they've lasted this long the tubes should be fine. I have a curved screen 28 inch vcr avant and the sound and picture quality is fantastic and always impresses visitors. You can get one of these for a couple of hundred pounds - cheaper and much better than any lcd tv! If you want the flat screen variant (which I hope to upgrade to at some point!) you'll be getting one of the best tellies ever made!!!

I have an Avant DVD 32. Brilliant set and I think was superb value even though I bought it new for full price. They are now simply a steal. You can, if you really want, get a DVB-T module for them - though I wouldn't bother - get a Sky+ box - they integrate perfectly.

If you are thinking about an Avant, you might also consider a used BV3-32. These are an absolute bargain over what they cost from new. Uses the same chassis as the Avant, the big difference been no built in VCR or DVD.

Thank you all for the responses to date. Unfortunately, I've not seen a BV3 either. How does it compare to the Avant for sound and vision? On connectivity quick look at the "product" section of the website reveals that it has only 2 SCARTS (Avant has 3), but supports two STBs from the built-in controller. Mark

Look at my setup at http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/permalink/73038/69562/ShowThread.aspx#69562

I am pretty sure it got 3 scart connections.... but I will have a look tonight just to be sure.
