Still can't stop buying old B&O!!

I won a Beomaster 1500 on eBay for a tenner earlier this week, and went to collect it from Liverpool this afternoon.
Don't worry, this is not a lengthy photo' threadWink
When I got there, the guy had more B&O so I bought the lot for £40 without even thinking about it.
I think it's more than just the Beovirus! I think all Bang & Olufsen items emit some sort of subliminal message, and once subjected to it there is no hope. Common sense and logic go straight out of the window!

    So today, I bought---
Beomaster 1500, works beautifully and although dirty is cosmetically fine 9/10
Beogram 1102, some veneer peeling and tone arm not lifting but runs at the right speed and perspex lid in good nick, complete with--
MMC 20S, surprisingly seems perfect, nice crisp sound with good stereo seperation.
Beocord 1101, in white. Not working but cosmetically sound.
Beovox S35 pair, No foam rot and sound lovely but a few ring marks. 8/10
Cabinet very similar to SC17 but jet black and edged with stainless steel banding, with partitions that appear to be slateConfused exactly 1 meter long. All this has to be added to my already collected items including

    Beomaster 4000 x 2 (one from CraigSmile )
    Beomaster 1000 x 3 (one from EdSmile )
    Beomaster 1700 x 1
    Beomaster 2400 x 1
    Beomaster 900K x 1
    Beomaster 7000 x 1 in black
    Beocord 1700 x 1
    Beocord 1900 x 1
    Beocord 5500 x 1
    Beocord 7000 x 1 in black
    Beogram 4500 x 1 white stripe
    Beogram CD7000 x 1 in black
    Beovision LX 4500 with Beosat x 1
    Beocord  VX 7000 VCR two-way x 1
    Beovox S30 pair x 2
    Beovox Redline 45-2 pair x 1
Remote control loudspeaker switch (Any body else?) x 1
And that's without mentioning the items I currently use on a day to day basis which are--

    Avant 32 curved VCR
    Beolab Penta MK3
    Beolab 8000
Beosystem 7000 in white (Thanks Lee and Beoworld SmileGift )
Beovox S120 (repaired foam rot my self)
    Beolink 7000 RDS x 1
    Beolink 5000 x 3
    Beolink 1000 x loads
    Beo4 x loads
    Beo5 x 1
    Beocom 6000 x loads
    LC1 x 2
    LC2 x 1

Oh, woe is me!  What is to become of me?

    Poor me, never win owt!

You are not alone. Once you are in its hard to get out or stop and say: I got enough.

As for older B&O its a hit and miss but still getting items home can be a very exciting thing to spend your time on.

Some weeks ago I saw an interesting bunch of B&O items on Lauritz.com:

    http://www.lauritz.com/Item/Item.aspx?LanguageId=1&ItemId=1138653&nBids=5&ReturnUrl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.lauritz.com%2fMyPages%2fMyAuctions.aspx%3fLanguageId%3d1%26DC%3d1%26CPIn%3d0%26ISz%3ds%26PSz%3ds%26PSzG%3ds%26SO%3d3%26ST%3d1%26PageId%3d4%231138653

Nearly complete 6000 system in white and that was the draw in this auction. A week later I went to Århus to pick it up. The transport were nearly to the actual door of the showroom but it was heavy to carry. That and no use for the Beolit or 900K made me just put it in another auction which ran the next wek with a very low high bid at 27 pounds. The Beolit had a missing antena and since no replacements are aviable I decided not spend any time with it. I did not power anything on and I was told that Lauritz.com never plugs in the electrical stuff but if it was non working I could come back with the stuff.

I got it all for about 140£ and 6£ in returns for the Beolit/900K minus the fee for the auction. I hope that the winner gets someting out of it.Smile

Anyway comming home its time to plug it in. I had noticed that the Beogram 6006 had a nearly unused original MMC20EN along with 3 manuals which are for the SC60 stand, Beomaster 6000 and the floorstands 6017 of Beovox M120 speakers and others.

The plug in of the Beogram gave a little weird standby light but the arm got moving and played a record or 2. The tacho disc is the celluid one but it looks to be rather good for its age. The trouble started though with the black buttons going under neith and make it stopped working.

The Beocord had a need for new belts so no surprice there.

Beomaster 6000? Dead. Plugging it in and no reaction at all so its going to Dillen in January.

As for this white edition its better than my rosewood in condition. My theory is that the Beomaster went dead and the system got sold because of that. Its very clean and no rust or damage anywhere.

The collection is getting bigger all the time.

    Beomaster 6000 rosewood with remote

Beogram 8002 rosewood with Soundsmith mmc2

    Beocord 9000 rosewood

    Beovox M150 rosewood no stands

    Attyca 2 stand white

    Beolab 8000 remote

    Beocord 1900 rosewood

Beovision LX5500 with white laquer and black back cover:

    http://www.lauritz.com/Item/Item.aspx?LanguageId=1&ItemId=800664&nBids=5&ReturnUrl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.lauritz.com%2fMyPages%2fMyAuctions.aspx%3fLanguageId%3d1%26DC%3d1%26CPIn%3d0%26ISz%3ds%26PSz%3ds%26PSzG%3ds%26SO%3d3%26ST%3d1%26PageId%3d4%23800664

Stand was a L2800 so sold with the former Beovision L2800 and a video shelf were with the auction though not in the pictures. The LX had the wrong software in it and the antena plug in got changed. Main reason for this one being sold at Lauritz? Well the Beolink did not work and 3 Duracells could not cure it. I still got the cables and link boxes 1611-1615. That tv still plays wonderfully.

Beocord VX 7000 2 way version black

B&O electric floorstand for the LX/VX

    Beolink 1000 mk III

    Beomaster 6000 white

    Beocord 6000 white

    Beogram 6006 white

    Beocord 8000 rosewood

Beomaster 6000 white original remote. Just won it on Ebay.

B&O MMC20CL used slightly nearly new.

Beogram 1203 rosewood with original SP12 I think nearly unused

The Beocord 8000 rosewood and Beocord 6000 white is up and running. Got some belts from Dillen and once I put the right old type fuses in they both started to play. The difficult part is finding those fuses but the local music store had them not the 2 B&O stores in town.

I'm just waiting for an auction to end on an old Beomaster that I have bid on but have no genuine need for, so I know the feeling well.

I only contracted the Beovirus over christmas last year so this is an unsettling vision of the future for me!

My tally for the first 12 months is

    Beolab 1700

    Beovox S45-2 x 2

    Beovox S30

    Beocenter 5000 (not working)

    Becenter 2000 (also dead)

    Beocenter 7000

    Beocom 6000 x 2

    Beocom  2

Beocom 4 (All the Beocoms from the Beoworld prize draw for which I am eternally grateful)

    Beovision LX2502

    Beovision LX2800

    Beolink 1000

    Beocord 1900

I am starting to think there is no hope!

This makes me feel SO much better - thank you!

I'm a sucker for black and teak B&O, it just looks so right on teak G-Plan. A rather modest two BeoSystem 1000's and a BeoSystem 2000 installed in the living room wall units, and a BeoSystem 1001 in the bedroom. Looks so right. I need more.

    Cheers,
    Steve

I´ve got quite a lot now. It´s harder to get at a "good" price now though even the broken stuff is going for a high price.

Still I managed to pick up a BC1200 the other day, just got to find a nice set of aluminium  reels for it now.Smile

Re: Still can't stop buying old B&O!!

Well I'm glad that I am not alone.
I keep having this vision of a wall at the left side of my chimbly *** with a row of shelves, each with a different Beomaster on it from different eras.
I already have the fancy loudspeaker switch which will allow me to send the sound to eight different speaker sets by a touch on the remote. Now I need some device which will allow me to chose which Beomaster fires up and connects to the loudspeaker switch by remote.

So why are we buying old B&O?

To me it fits more of my income and besides the Jacob Jensen design the old units does not seam dated. When it hits the 20 odd years it mostly needs a qualified repair/service but thats my so far experience of it.

    Can anyone agree?

Also to the most important thing. Audio and video can still compete with 2007 standards mostly.

True - but you would be surprised by just how good some of the older equipment sounds! Take the Beolab 5 out of the equation and I reckon I could put together a system which would frighten almost any of the current range.
