    Beolab 2 Dolby Digital set-up or Dolby Pro-Logic set-up?

The Lab2 instructions show to connect all 5 speakers to the TV for a Dolby Digital System but

for a Dolby Pro- Logic system to connect the front speakers to the Lab2?

    Which is right?

My TV broadcasts in Dolby Pro-Logic most of the time, but the DVD plays in Dolby Digital???

Also my Beosound 4 is connected the the TV, so again would that favour the Dolby-Pro Logic set-up?

    My Set-up - Avant DVD (last version) Lab 2, 8000's, 4000's

I have mine attached to the TV via the sub-woofer connection. It plays when I am just using by BC2 for music and also plays when the channel I am watching is not Dolby Digital - or indeed Dolby at all.

Are the low frequencies filtered by the Lab 2 before reaching an attached pair of speakers?

And IMHO if all speakers and sub are connected to the TV then the front speakers do not have reduced low frequency.

I understood the TV did that itself when you specify sub-woofer. I may be wrong.

That what I would have thought but in testing it doesn't sound that way.

This is the point that I was trying to get at with my last message on the Beolab2 thread and my concern all along. When I am using music does the "system" (and lets face it thats what we buy even if we assemble it in stages) prevent over-bassing the process by running the beolab 2 as well as the bass on the 8000. I was hoping that the presence of one would make the others un-necessary or reduce at the minimum. I don't want to spend whatever it is just to find out that I have much too much bass (or boominess). I really do believe its a modern trend to concentrate music (mostly manufactured) on the bass and treble.

These were the concerns I have when I tested the 9's. I couldn't really get a satisfactory mid-range (although it was a shop test and hardly fair given the music he was playing). My 8000's are just what I want + an extension to the bass I am not looking for the bass to take over.

It is not about the system that is used in broadcasting, it is about the system that is in your TV. If your TV has a subwoofer output... use it

yes but thats the point, if i do I get a resonating  bass from the 8000's and lab2 requiring turning down the bass settings.

Re: Beolab 2 Dolby Digital set-up or Dolby Pro-Logic set-up?

Does anybody know the science between the too set-up options?

I would hazard a guess the DD5.1 system is designed to redirect the bass from a DD5.1 source to the Beolab2 if SUBWOOFER is set to YES.

But an audio system connected to the TV does not have the same effect resulting in bass to all speakers. ??

    Anybody confirm?

Re: Beolab 2 Dolby Digital set-up or Dolby Pro-Logic set-up?

Thanks for coming back on this with your last two messages. I don't want a system whereby I have to change the leads every time I watch a DVD (or alternatively play music). Because the two fronts are connected to the Dolby and that recognises that music is being played (i.e. the third --tv speaker) cuts out automatically I thought that connecting the sub woofer to the tv might be controlled similiarly. On the other hand may be it isn't and is only useful for DVD's in that position. If thats the case I don't want it.

Its not fact, just my opinion. I haven't tried both options to compare yet. It could be my room that requires the bass be lowered. Don't dismiss it yet on my account, please. SmileEmbarrassed

For movies I love it 10/10, however with music I am tweaking with the BASS.

If I put a non B&O active sub onto the sub socket on the dolby digital with a powerlink to RCA connection will things work satisfactorily,

Yes, they will. Be sure to buy one with adjustable take over freqency (see other threads in this forum on this subject).

Re: Beolab 2 Dolby Digital set-up or Dolby Pro-Logic set-up?

I am reviving this thread because it strikes me that we have a number of unsatisfactory sub-woofer questions flying around at the moment. This thread still leaves unanswered the question of the sub going through the DTS as compared with the powerlink socket of the speaker. From this thread I understand that the latter replaces the bass on the speakers and thus is better for music whereas the former adds to the bass on the speakers and is better for DVD.

Do we need two sub woofers -- no surely not so what is going on. There is more than one person on this site wanting to add a non-b&o sub. Are we making a mountain out of a molehill?

Re: Beolab 2 Dolby Digital set-up or Dolby Pro-Logic set-up?

If I listen to music from the BS4 as per fig. A then bass is directed to both BL8000 & BL2 = too much bass, not nice Sad

if I connect BL2 to my BS4 and the BL800's to the BL2 then the BL2 handles all the bass. = bass is nice, sounds nice Smile

    so

would figure B be recommended if a Beosound (no speakers connected directly to it) was connected to a Beovision ?

Re: Beolab 2 Dolby Digital set-up or Dolby Pro-Logic set-up?

I share your question. We previously had Beolab 9s connected to an Avant  and a Velodyne sub connected directly to the Avant. It seemed to me that turning the sub away directed too much bass away from the 9s. I only wanted the sub to play the very lowest frequencies that the 9 could not reach. I finallyturned the sub off because I wanted all bass to go to the 9s even if I was missing the very lowest frequencies. We now have the 9s and sub connected to a BV7 MKIII and so far I do not seem to notice the same problem.

    Beovision 7-55 with Beolab 7-4, 9s and 4000s

    Beovision 10-40 with Beolab 1s and 6000s

    Beosound 1, 5, 2000, and 3000
