    Beocenter 9500 Problem

My old Beocenter 9500 was working fine this morning until I took it outside for a clean, brought it back in and plugged it in (to my Beolab 6000s). Now it won't work.

All the functions work fine, but the signal is very weak and crackly (I have to crank it up to max to hear anything). The speakers are fine so it seems like the main unit is putting out a really weak signal.

Has anybody else experienced this before? I'd love to hear some suggestions because I'm dying to get it working!

Try to rule out the classic muting relay fault first: connect your speakers to the no. 2 outputs and see if if you have sound then. If you do, it's a relatively cheap fix. You might also opt to just keep it that way, all you'll be missing is the muting function.

Hope it is just this. And welcome to the forum!

Got it sorted! Some wierd thing with the Line In/Out port - it needed the plug thing leaving in.

OK, that was even easier Smile The plug really needs to be there, it is the only thing carrying the signal from the preamplifier to the output stage.

It's been in there ever since you've had it! What prompted you to take it out????

Ps what you are saying up above is that the mute does not work on B speakers?

    welcome to beoworld!

a b&o dealer may be able to source you the plug... prob cheap!

in the meantime, if you want to jump it...

you should have a typical 5 pin DIN female socket staring at you.

orient yourself so that the keyway is at 6:00. working clockswise from 6:00, we'll call them pin 1-5.

    at 8:30 is pin 1 / 10:30 is pin 2 / 12:00 is pin 3 / 1:30 is pin 4 / 3:30 is pin 5

jump pin 1 to pin 5 / jump pin 2 to pin 4 / pin 3 is open

the answer to your other q is: the mute only functions on spk1. after jumping, you still don't have sound... then mute relay is bad. move the speakers to spk2 and try again... MAKE SURE VOLUME IS DOWN (stored low).
