How to use a B&O microphone?

I have a MD8 microphone and the Din plug only has 3 pins. Surely that can't be compatible with a normal Din socket? I did manage to record some sound using a Beocord 1100 but I couldn't get the sound out the speakers whilst I was recording. Only got sound after playback. How does one use the microphone so you can hear the sound through the speakers? Does the MD8 only work with 60's B&O?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    Ben

Ben, when I had a MD8. It was tested by plugging it into the Phono connection on my BM1000. That let the sound come through the speakers with no problems at all.

Ben, I think the reason it has a 3 pin plug is it only needs to work one way. There will never be any need for a signal to go to the Mic only form it.

Re: How to use a B&O microphone?

Yes, and it's mono so actually only needed two pins but the standard is 3-pin.
It should fit nicely into any DIN socket, 3/5/7-pin etc.

I believe the Beocord 1100 uses some of its circuits for both recording and playback so it will
have to switch out one function to use the other.
That means either record or playback - not both simultaneously.

Re: How to use a B&O microphone?

you'll have to elaborate a bit for me Martin Embarrassed I understand its a mono microphone...only two pins used...BUT i have 2 MD8s at the moment and the Din plugs are wired differently!! Is the middle pin the dud one? Also why are there two wires, red and black, doesn't it matter which way they go? What function do each of the two wires serve since its mono? There aren't any manuals at the moment on Beoworld.

Think I'm going to feel very dumb after this is explained!!!

Re: How to use a B&O microphone?

I must admit to actually never having used the MD8 though I do have a couple
in my collection. It could be a balanced microphone, that would explain the need
    for two leads plus ground.
Maybe it's explained in the inlay sheet in the microphone box (if you have it).

    Pin 2 is always ground.
