I have previously written about my “failing” Beomaster 2400 and its pungent burning oil smell. I also had concerns which may or may not have been well founded in regard to volume levels. Six months or more have gone by and this Beomaster continues to perform well….. to both my relief and surprise. Having nothing to do with my Beomaster

Hi Martin, Thanks for the information. The Beogram 8000 is performing in an outstanding manner thanks entirely to you and your workmanship on the motherboard. This hum only occurs when starting up, so no problem…. Jeff

I feel sure I posted this question before, so please forgive the redundant question, however my Beogram 8000 also groans a DEEP hum every time PLAY is selected. Once the platter comes up to speed the hum, groan, growl (whatever) goes away. The sound is that of a strained electric motor, but the Beogram 8000 doesn’t have a motor, so what is this

I posted a question in regard to stylus cleaning and have results to share. Does cleaning the sapphire shaft and diamond stylus make a significant difference? The answer depends on the condition of the stylus. If the assembly is clean there is little difference, however if it is dirty, the difference is nothing less than dramatic. My MMC2 developed

Peter, A most interesting piece you contributed on “Cartridge Choice.” As you may recall, I was having a terrible time with my MMC2/8002 concerning a very loud crunching noise that revealed itself in-between tracks. Also high end distortion. The problem was a very dirty stylus and once addressed, in particular removing the debris right where

Hi Alistair, I honestly do not remember, but it was not significant, nothing like shipping the whole deck at $380. (One way) Customs fees did not apply as I shipped it under their value radar. FORGET the challenge of doing it yourself. Trust me on this, I did the entire cap kit and still nothing worked. Martin found hundreds, yes hundreds of solder

Hi Alistair, I strongly recommend that you follow Martin’s advice and ship him your Main board with processor casing…. I neglected to do the latter and had to make further repairs myself as a result. Martin’s work is exceptional. Sending just the board will greatly reduce shipping costs and avert any possible damage in shipment to

Since I have managed to convince you to set aside your quest for a Beogram 4000, unquestionably the BEST of this series, I wholeheartedly recommend a Beogram 4002 or 4004. Both are “cut-down” versions of the iconic original, but well worth you time and investment. The look is similar and the sound quality is in the same ballpark. Plus the

Greetings from sunny Victoria! Yep, you need a cap kit. I had the same issues with my Beogram 8000; however Dillen’s excellent cap kit did not solve my problems. These are complicated beasts . Since Dillen has a great track record with his kits, and assuming you are really good with electronics you might want to try it to see if the kit corrects

Hi Peter, Problem solved! The sound was driving me crazy, loud, mechanical, popping and crunching. Then it occurred to me that the sound was also like dragging something over a metal shaft….. and the light went on. It was a scrap of debris right where the shaft met the metal plate covering the suspension. Once removed, the problem was solved
