    A question for BV5 / 9 owners...

    Hi all,

I used to own an Avant, and it had an external LED display, so when masterlinked to a Beosound 9000 (or other B & O audio system), it would display the source, track, and volume information on the small discrete LED display on the right top of the screen.

Since I have never seen (more likely, played with) BV5 or BV9 at dealers, for those televisions which don't have an external source display, how is the source / vol information displayed when the TV is not the active source when it's masterlinked with an audio system, per se.

Is there any que, or would one have to rely on the display on the B & O Audio system to see what is playing? Just a curious question is all.

    THanks,

    Sal

    Hello Sal,

I was not fortunate enough to have the Avant, but on the BV 5 (BV 4) the link information is displayed on  screen so the TV has to be on.  Does/did your Avant LED display show even if the TV screen was not on?

    Thinking about acquiring a BV5/BV9?Cool

    Roger,

Definitely so. If I pressed CD on the Beo4, when the TV was off, the Avant display indeed showed something like "CD2  4," in it's red LED display. It was a really cool feature.

If the TV was on, and I pressed CD, the TV screen would turn off, and the red LED display would show the source information for the BS9000 as above.

Additionally, when masterlinked to the BS 9000, audio would be adjusted from the Avant screen's sound settings. When I pressed any of the audio adjustment buttons on the BS9000 keypad, the 9000 display would show "TV OPERATED."

    VERY COOL!

    Hi Sal,

Roger is correct, BV-5/9 uses the Plasma display itself to show all pertinent info.  Yet another reason I can state that the BV-7 is the 'true' successor to Avant.  BV-7 uses the built in LED/LCD display to provide the same sort of information that Avant provided.  Very cool!

And, yes I know the difference between LED aand LCD.  ;-)  The original BV-7's all used a red LED display...the MKIII and US BV-7's all use a newer 'white' LCD display not unlike BeoCenter 2.

    Re: A question for BV5 / 9 owners...

Thanks Russ and Roger for your responses.. I am curious about the US BV7 White L"C"D display, is it as bright and vibrant as the red LED akin to that of the Beosouns 9000?

To Roger... I WISH I was in the salary bracket to be able to afford a BV 5/9... Besides, my place is way to small for a behemoth like a BV 9 or 5.

I am definitely in the market for a BV8 and excited about trying it out in person at a dealer early next year.

If you're following another thread in the NorthAmerican forums, apparently there will be a Masterlink / IR module available to extend the stock capabilities of the US BV8. Exciting.

    Of course its a scam.

I do hope nobody from this forum bid, if they did then say goodbye to your money. BeoVision 5s don't sell for £980! If you examine the feedback you will see that the only products that sell are batteries, which will be genuine of course, thus ensuring a good batch of generally positive feedback. If you want something for nothing, you will always end up with nothing. If you want a quality product then you pay for it.
