Beogram RX doesn't play anymore - Help me please!

Hi Everyone!  This is my first post here.  I encountered a problem when setting up my old Beogram RX turntable today.  After just two years packed away (in the very room my system is in, not a basement / storage area etc.) upon setting it up and trying to play an LP, the tonearm swings over to the record, touches down for a second, picks back up and returns to the home position.

I've tried adjusting the counterweight a little (I have an MMC5 cart. with 1.5g's recommended) with no change in behaviour.

It used to work perfectly in my last place. I packed it very well and can't imagine any significant trauma occurring during the move nor while in storage under my bed.

Please help me. I'm just a poor guy wanting to listen to his vinyl!  I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and don't really have the resources to get this looked at professionally.

Thank you for any information or assistance you can give!

    Michael,

    Welcome to Beoworld !

This is a very common thing for these decks after standing unused for some time.
    Contacts inside oxidate.
The correct thing would of course be to take it all apart, clean
the contacts and put it back together but I'm sure that less will do in your case.
Keep on trying, eventually it will have broken through the micro-thin
layer of oxidation and I'm sure it will work fine by then.
Patience is the key. You may need to try 20, 30 or even 50 times.

The same applies to Beogram 1800, 2000 and 5000 which are of a similar build.

Thank you, I'll try that! again and again. :)  However should I need to open this baby up (something I've never attempted to do before) and clean the innards, do you recommend any particular solution / method?  Also, this thing looks impossible to take apart.  Do you know where I could go to find out about doing that?

Taking it apart is not hard - if you know how.
The service manual will tell you, it's available for
download from the products section for silver and gold members
along with tons of other stuff and will take you through the task
    should the need arise.
