    beocenter 3500 stylus not lowering

    Hi there

I went through a bit of trouble recently getting a Beocenter 3500 for my girlfriend as she has a large collection of vinyl and her last record player was a 'cheapie' that melted one summer in the sun! (I'm in Australia).  I got it for her for her birthday, we hooked it up earlier tonight and listened to one side of 'let it be', and then flipped it over and... nothing.  in fact, where it had once spun without me needing to touch anything, it now only turned on if i turned the 'manual' dial one notch to the right however the stylus would not lower to the record anymore.

Just to reiterate, it played through a full side of the record (perfectly I might add, and I've never heard it sound that good before either!), then the stylus returned to the starting position and the record stopped spinning.  After flipping it over, the stylus no longer lowered to the vinyl.

After perusing this forum for a while I sheepishly unscrewed the transport screws however I am still stuck with the same problem.  Can anyone help me?

    Thank you

    Panos

    Panos,

    Welcome to Beoworld !

The Beocenter 3500 is a wonderful beast and heavy, no plastics here !

Check that the LIFT button still moves and clicks when pressed. It can become stuck if dust etc. collects around the button.

It should rest flush with the aluminum surface of the deck.

hi, thanks for your response!  yes, i love he finish of the 3500 as does my girlfriend. which is why postage was such a pain :)

but yes, the lift button is flush with the surface and still moves.  no click though :/  is there any way of cleanng it?  i cant actually see any dust, or any gap around the button

could that also be the reason why, when i set it spinning and move the stylus to the end of the record manually, it does not return automatically? it still 'springs' back but not right to start

Try placing a record on the platter, swing in the tonearm and place the
needle in the end-grooves and start the deck.
Let me know what happens - if anything at all.

If the needle is not touching the record, gently swing it in
a bit further, you may go as long as the edge of the record label.

yep already tried this, unfortunately nothing at all happens.  the record starts turning but thats it, and the needle still only just touches the label

Well, I suppose you will have to open it and have a look inside.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you exactly what to look for but
anything "out of the ordinary" so to speak..

    Platter off.
    Cartridge off.
There are some screws at the back and then you can lift off
the whole record deck. There are some wires connecting to the
radio chassis below so be careful.

Maybe you should try to find a service manual.
That could come in handy if something else goes wrong in the future.
If you weren't so far away you could ship it to me.
