    SPEAKER RECOMMEDATION, PLEASE

Hey I am starting to collect on a 6000 system. The line-up will be  Beomaster 6000,and a choice of either Beogram 6006, Beogram 8002 or beogram 8000. I have got a hold onto the BG6006 and BG8002(, but I am not quite sure about their condition yet.) I also will complete this with a beocord of the same family.

The beomaster 6000 is 2 x 75 watt  so my question to you all is.

Which speakers would you recommend after your opinion and taste to the collection above? I have not decided  yet, which I should try and get a hold on and I have deep respect for your opinions my Beoworld friends to guide me.

The speaker designed for this would be the S120 which comes on stands and is a fine balanced speaker. If you have the space and like more bass, consider M75/M100s (from an earlier period just) or M150/MS150 which are the finest passive speakers B&O made. They may well need some work on them but if they do, they should be cheap! I got my MS150s which foam rot for nothing. Now repaired and in Bellac performing well with a Beosystem 7000.

I have thought of the M150/MS150, but will the BM6000 get these going wthout problems?

No problem at all! The M150 was designed to go with the 6000.Well up to it. My MS150s are being used with a 7000 sounding good and a 6000 has more power than that. (Remember to compare power figures using the same measuring system: BM7000 = 55w, BM6000 = 75W)

For those claiming 110W per channel for the 7000, look at the maximum power use - 225W for the 7000. The 6000 has a maximum power use of 325W which equates to a total power output of 160W per channel. Of course about half of these figures is heat - which is pretty obvious if you feel the back heat sinks after a good session!

Have you thought about Beovox Pentas? I use them with my Beomaster 8000 and they look and sound GREAT! Depends on what kind of interior you have, as I think the Pentas look much smarter in a contemporary interior than the wood-clad models. There's a wow factor to them that's not quite there with the MS150s, though I've heard many good things about them and nearly bought a mint pair on eBay recently, but they went for not far short of the price of my mint Pentas.

We auditioned Penta 3s against the M100s driven by a BM5500 ( not the ideal amplifier) and the M100s triumphed in my view. Down to bass drivers - a good big one beats a number of good small ones. But John does have a point - the M series are not discrete!!

I'd love to hear a good pair of Beovox Pentas against a good pair of MS150s (or M100s) driven by a well sorted BM 8000 and see which ones triumph. You'd need a massive room to get that lot in to audition, but it would be a great test. The BM 8000 is the one with the real power to drive these bad boys and I'd love to have a listen to the bass on the MS150s from that huge bass driver :)

I have compared MS150s driven by an 8000 against Beolab Pentas and the Pentas sounded better. BUT I feel the 8000 needs a service! I'll have another go this week end but I will use my 4400 to drive the M100s.
