If I purchase a DVD 1, can I hook it up to my MX 5000, like my old Beocord VX 5000? I think the VX 5000 receives it's control commands through the TV with my Beolink 1000. Will the DVD 1 receive controls in the same fashion? Does it have a scart connector? Guy

Guy, DVD 1 has scart connector on the back which can be connected to MX TV. I Believe MX should control DVD1 with no problems.

It behaves like a Beocord, so if your Beocord VX works, the DVD1 shoudl work as well. p.

Don´t think the AVX1 Expander will work with the MX 5000. But please correct me if I´m wrong.

The AVX1 works perfect with the MX5000 :) The Expander was even designed to fit into the motorized stand MS5000 on the backside, invisible ;) I use it already several years...

I was wrong! Perfect! I didn´t knew it existed. Have only seen the AV2 (but the number 2 should maybe hint me there was an AV1) This is exactly what I need! Since the analogue TV is closed in Sweden I now have three things to connect to he TV (VCR, DVD and DVB-T). Now I must find one.

Kieth, Here in the US Scart is extremely rare; some B&O being an obvious exception. So out of sheer curiousity, what is AVL? Thanks Alex

thanks! well then i need to get myself a scart cable. will a generic 21-pin cable (fully pinned) suffice? or is there something unique to the branded b&o scart cables?

Jeff & Alex, A diagram of the SCART cable connections is shown below:- Pin 8 is used for two functions:- - To change the format of the picture for example from 4:3 to 16:9 by the change of the DC voltage level.
- On top of the format changing voltage is a 1 volt digital "AVL" called "Audio Visual Link" which sends commnd data to the DVD1. There will only be commands for the device on this SCART in your case the DVD1 on the AVL. Masterlink or TV commands do not appear on this line.
There is nothing special about a B&O SCART cable except that it is made to a high standard and all above connections are wired.

the scarts i have found in the usa seem to be of a relatively high quality (for the most part) and are fully wired out. i will give one a shot, unless i can find a nos b&o item somewhere over here -as alex mentioned -not very big here. thx again for all of your assistance!

just rec'd my scart... all is well!
thx for the help!
now i have one more issue. when setting the conneections on the mx5000 -it is so old that dvd(1) is not an option. i used vtape -and it works, however, i have to control the dvd1 using vtape on my beo4. any way of "remapping" the functionality on the beo4 from vtape to dvd buttons?
if that is sorted -i would free and clear!
btw, on another note and in ref to a post elsewhere on this site (i will post there too) i noticed an appreciable difference in brightness using this other source (dvd1)
thx again!

Can you choose [CDV]? It´s the same as [DVD].

You should indeed be able to choose CDV as the labeling for AV2. I do not remember if you can assign CDV to AV1. DVD and CDV are the equivalent command.
However -- AV2 is not a "normal" scart output on the North American NTSC sets. It is instead a RCA/S-Video combination. Datalink is carried over a separate RCA jack. There is a very expensive custom breakout cable which can convert the separate RCA's back into the SCART which plugs into the back of a DVD1. You could see if this is still available (best to try the Illinois headquarters or atlantic-systems.com to find this part, your dealer may be clueless.) In theory, this will allow you to have both a datalinked VX5000 and DVD1 at the same time...
This presumes that the CDV choice actually instigates datalink commands and doesn't just open the video input. Somebody send me a DVD1 and I will check. :)
