    New Stylus

    Hi,

I have inherited an old Beomaster 5500 system from my dad and the beogram part of it doesnt work....i have been told by B&O that the stylus needs replacing but are quoting around £150+ to do this...does anyone know if this is a reaonable amount of if it is possible to buy one cheaper and replace it yourself?!

     thanks,

    josie

Reasonable price in my view. If you order yourself from the sole manufacturer (Soundsmith in the US) you may pay £110 with delivery and taxes.

    Regards Graham

Agree with Graham, it isn't worth trying to buy 2nd hand used B&O ones as they haven't been made for donkeys years and most of them are likely to fail shortly due to aging suspension.

Go to the sound smith website and order the SMMC4 which is far superior to the original B&O MMC4 IMO. You may have to wait up to a month for delivery as each cartrideg is hand made to order but well worth itSmile Don't be put off by the relatively high cost as it should last you years due to the ultra low tracking forces of these cartridges.

    Re: New Stylus

I was lucky enough to buy one of the last batch in the UK; also gained one when I moved from my broken BC2200 to my BS5500. Now I'm just worried because they're back home in Scotland. Somewhere. In a cubboard.
