B&O CD "This is different" by Kipper

    Hi,

Last week I was at my dealer to see the BV9 in the flesh and to hear the BL9's. I got a bag full of DVD's and CD's with me and tested both. Really nice, I must say! On the way out I got the CD mentioned in the title of the thread. It comes with a nice, big booklet with details to the songs and also nice pictures of B&O gear (songs by Sting, Richard Marx, Mike Lindup and others).

Having listened to it now a couple of times, I must say that the recording fidelity is really impressive. So if anyone visits a B&O dealer in the near future make sure you ask for this!

    Cheers,
    Frank

I have to admit that I don't share your opinion an this CD. I think that, like most of the B&O CDs, "this is different" is not so much different. It just is a compilation of music in a nice booklet and package. The only thing that is different is the fact, that there is B&O written on it. The quality of the music is not really better than on any standart CD imo.

Sorry Frank, I have to agree with Tom.
Sure it's good quality sound and well packaged but I listened to it once then put some proper music on!

Of the B&O disks, the only one I've heard which I really really like (and have a copy of) is Active Listening III. Black front cover with a single BeoLab 5.

There's surely better CD's out there, but come on, the sound quality is definitely on the better side and some of the tracks are really enjoyable. Music is a matter of taste, therefore you cannot make it right for everybody, but at least the homework was done: The booklet is informative with information on each track and the CD sounds good.

Maybe it would be better to get Deep Purple Machine Head in the new remix/remastered cd version. Sounds good on vinyl but take vinyl to a B&O shop for testing?

Anyway turn that cd up and see if the roof blows off or what.

If it sounds good, save up your hard earned money.

There is no doubt that the quality is good and it's well presented, but to be quite frank, Frank, unless you are a dealer I doubt that you would listen to it more than once.
Perhaps a better CD could have a mix of classical, rock, pop, opera, folk and electronic music instead of tunes favoured by one man, Kipper.

edit-- Oh, and some Northumbrian smallpipes!

I'm the kind of person who would enjoy listening to a truly eclectic CD with a little of every style of music on it. I put my iTunes library on "random" when I'm cleaning house, and I get everything from Bach to Madonna! But I've NEVER met anyone else like me in that regard.  It seems to me that most people pull out an album because they feel like indulging themselves in a fairly homogeneous musical atmosphere for an hour or so.

By the way, I'm not acquainted with Northumbrian smallpipe music, Andy.  If I had to get one album to introduce myself, which would you recommend?

    Cheers,

    Aj

    Hi Aj.
At the moment I am listening over and over to Kathryn Tickell's album "Instrumental"
These pipes are not brash like Highland pipes but can be mournful or jolly. They are similar to the Irish Uillean pipes in that you don't blow into them, you have a small bellow under one arm which you use to inflate the large bag under your other. It means you can drink while playing!BeerDrinksYes - thumbs up

you have PM (or you will in a few moments)
