B&O Play = stand alone... So it's almost sure that there will be no surround sound module and no BeoNet module.
Not sure if that's going to work : previously, all "simple" TVs from B&O have never been great success until they added surround sound module (which, by the way, makes people buy Beolabs...)

What I read (between the lines?) was that they will leverage the Apple ecosystem instead of BeoNet - so make use of Airplay, ATV2s and the like
First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

Disagree. All I want from a TV is good picture quality, good sound, it has to be simple to use, look simple and elegant and it should be made of good quality materials. Don't care about surround sound and I would prefer a stand alone device... Cost is not the main issue, but I don't want to spend a fortune either... Right now I can't think of a manufacturer who makes a product that meets all of this criteria... Just hope B&O play can pull it off.

I think surround sound is just very important.
it would be a big mistake if they let it out.
Where does this idea come from that every B&O product should always do everything, driving up the cost? There are and will be plenty of people who will never want to install a surround system. Buyers of other brands are forced to, because the built-in sound in those isn't even good enough for the evening news, but B&O has a good tradition of TV sets worth using stand-alone.
I'm sure these won't connect to Masterlink nor an MCL system from 1987 either. And a lot of people won't care. There are plenty of other products in the porfolio for those who do.
There may well be more versatile (and more expensive) models in the future. They can't bring everything out at the same time.

I can see where they are going by not adding certain features into the tv if that results in it having a lower price then i'm not complaining, my only hope is that the tv has at least three to four hdmi inputs. It would be a bad move if b&0 released it with one or too hdmi inputs only.
I don't even mind if it hasn't got a surround sound module built in as i have an av receiver and speakers already so thats not a problem for me i'm just hoping the final price on launch is reasonable and that it can compete with the competition... I really want b&0 to do well and i think if they promote it alot and attract alot of attention it could definately bring people who haven't really been interested in b&0 to the fore.
I wonder what it's going to look like i didn't really like the bv8-40 when i first saw it but as time went on the looks of it started to grow on me to the point that i actually wanted one, although by the time i was going to get one they had been discontinued. I also wonder what the b&0 play tvs picture processor will be like 100hz, 200hz maybe?
It has to be said it's pretty exciting.

That would be more than I require !
But I curse the industry for being driven to implement a technology that makes it difficult/expensive to add connectors either to the TV or to some connector box.
Although I understood B&O's lock in strategy behind its approach to building surrond sound into the TV's frame I do wish they simply provided an external processing unit (that is less expensive than the BS3).
So B&O Play is a great ... but surely it would be simple to:
- provide optional "system modules" that we can install, or
- external boxes that add the function we need,
- including PLEASE a bridge box that connects the MasterLink world

johnnielse:
Has anyone heard when in 2012 we can expect the B&O Play TV?
It was scheduled for March 2012 but it has been delayed till at least August 2012.
