Hello all . Which way round do the go in my Beo1 , just removed the batteries without taking any notice how they were incerted and then discoverd there are no pos/neg markings anywhere and can't find the book ?

I have two of these in the showroom looking pretty collecting dust in the stockroom. I will give this a go tomorrow as I could do with one at home just to turn on my bedroom TV and adjust the volume!

Strange , the only way I can get an ir output at the top ( using a camera ) is to incert the batteries pos up on the left socket ( looking at the bottom sockets at 12 o'clock ) pos down on the right .

Sorry to mislead - you are right! It should indeed be +ve down on the right!
