    Beolab 8000 Terminal Gone Mad!

    Hi Vintage Community,

I am writing about some strange behavior of my Beolab Terminal. Last night I turned of my Beomaster 8000. One minute later it was on again with the tuner blasting on P8. I thought, I maybe pressed the wrong button. So I turned it off again. Well, about 30 sec later it was on P8 again. I wondered if it might be the Terminal malfunctioning. Indeed, putting the remote under a pillow, the BM stayed off. Next, I played with the remote pressing all the buttons...sometimes I was able to elicit a proper response, but mostly not. I put in a new battery (after ripping out the corroded contact from the pad with the old battery and soldering a new 9v connector in...;-). To no avail: Exactly the same phenomena...

I should point out: The remote was not abused...it just sat there on the coffee table and was working fine just a few minutes earlier, and then out of a sudden this strange behavior.

I am wondering if anyone may have encountered a similar problem and found a remedy?? The usual bad solder joints?? Thanks much in advance!

This sounds to me like a battery has leaked sometime in the past, and now the acid / corrosion has finally started to create problems. I would start by thorough cleaning / resoldering / reassembly.

Thanks! I do not think a battery leaked in this one. The interior is clean and decent looking. No evidence of battery acid etc....but re-soldering is probably a good idea anyway.

I finally got around to looking into my 'mad' Terminal. I re-soldered all joints on the main board, and that indeed did it! All functions restored! Thanks for your advice, Mika!

Great Smile It could've been a plain old cracked solder as well.
