Just came in from McAllen TX, bought on US bay in April, as I didn't have time to pick it up, my sister in love brought it.
Buying price was USD 103.50 + shipping USD 12.00, honest seller, sometimes the shipping is 40-50.00.
Was shipped from Tacoma WA to McAllen TX, from there with car to Mex. city, a total of 4355 Km.
With the known jitters I connected after checking, voltage switch, (no switch) all of, selected tape 1, lights on, turned of, connected speakers, FM nothing, connected cable strip with alligator clip, nothing, moved the dial, nothing, I knew that, the honest seller told me the string is broken, FM 1 stations coming in, increased volume to 4 good sound, checking more stations, same or better as my BM 2400 but with AFC the lights are not even the strength meter works, Checking all keys, all works, checking sliders, no noice all working, checking cooling elements, both sides cool, turned of.
In the weekend I will open this amazing piece of art, and check forther. I'm so happy, this is better than love without kisses.
Isn't it beautiful
Even got the preset cover, some dust but no grease or goo, the wood has some very light scratches, no problem.
Only problem, the fabric selector didn't want to hear it, and said "one more", apparently FSs are immun (this word exist ??) to BeoVirus.

Welcome to the BM4000 club! Good luck and congratulations. I'm sure you'll check for it, but make sure you have equal output in both channels. That was my first indication mine was failing. Or are you going to recap it regardless?
And be sure and look for that envelope inside with the schematic!
Current primary listening: SMMC20EN -> BG4002 -> BM4000 -> Beovox M70

Thank you Rich Evan, I'm going to recap, but first of all I want to open it up and clean it, then slowly check everything for repair signs and differences to forum drawings, until now I don't have an item that is build exactly as the drawings, then I have to speak with Martin to see what I 'm going to change, but caps and lamps for sure.
After check I will connect and adjust the no load currents and let it play until the parts arrive. A good sign is that the cosmetic is OK, and the screw heads for upper and lower cover looks like new.

I have "seen the missing" voltage switch and that shiny type antenna socket before on US-units that arrived here for service but I never saw a 108MHz version before. They seem to be quite common in the states. There's a couple more on the US Ebay with 108MHz tuners.

Back to component side
Trimmers looking ugly
String is OK but unglued, BTW is the slider with 2 pegs or only 1, it doesn't look broken, but my eyesight isn't the best, will check with my 10x1 loup, didn't find rests inside.

Te "dirty solders" were on both of mine Soren, especially on the preamp board and bird nest around the big cans. Me thinks if I remember right that is part of the ambio. Lots of wires to have to remember to resolder correctly.
One the 4000's had obvious cap issues and the other was clean from the top view. Only until i started pulling caps did the crust underneath reveal itself. wouldnt surprise me if the 2 470uf are leaking on the underside.

All in all not too bad, but for an amateur like me time consuming and kind of difficault, will have to go slow and secure, checking everything 2=3 times before changing anything, will be interesting tomorrow checking it all according to the attached drawing, which by the way is pristine.
The big caps 5000 MyF, can I change them with 5600, as 5000 is hard to find and if, very exspensive.
The birds nest, is that original ???

The value of those is by no means critical, I'm sure that's fine and 4700µ would work as well.
The tuning slider has at least two prongs originally, maybe even three... and I ended up using glue on the one remaining prong in mine. I tied a loop of string around the prong and dial cord, then secured with hot glue. I like to keep these spots such that they are easy to undo.

As I have been following your threads, you got me hooked on this one, this will be the start for a 4000 system, finishing this BM 4000, next up is a BG 4000 and then the corrosponding speakers, but this BM will be taking some time as I want to get 100% right.

You can be sure that most of those big carbon resistors are completely out-of-spec as well.

Thank you Menahem, just visited your website and also read your comments on caps and what they do, will keep all that in mind when starting the repair, my biggest problem is not to find proper spares but to get it safe and fast to Mex city (PITB)
